00:00 A poisonous relationship beyond all hope of repair?
00:03 An expert dished the inside scoop on Meghan's reaction to Kate's diagnosis, and it isn't
00:09 good.
00:10 By all accounts, the feud between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle was boiling long before
00:14 Prince Harry and Meghan left the royal fold.
00:16 And from the sound of it, Kate's cancer diagnosis hasn't been enough to make Meghan forgive
00:21 and forget.
00:22 Amidst the ongoing bad blood between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the royal family,
00:26 the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly weren't personally told about Kate's cancer.
00:31 They found out at the same time as the public.
00:34 The Times of London reports Harry and Meghan were blindsided by Kate's news.
00:38 Still, the couple reportedly reached out to Kate privately, as well as releasing a brief
00:42 public statement which said,
00:43 "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so
00:47 privately and in peace."
00:49 On the surface, it sounds like their interests align with Kate and her family's, but insiders
00:53 say that tensions behind the scenes are as high as ever.
00:57 According to royal author Tom Quinn, Meghan is still harboring resentment for Kate, even
01:01 in light of the difficult news.
01:03 He talked to the Mirror about the troubling state of Meghan and Kate's relationship, and
01:07 how Meghan reacted to the cancer news, and unfortunately, things sound as bad as ever.
01:12 Quinn said,
01:13 "Kate's cancer diagnosis has been a real shock for Meghan, but she can see no way to patch
01:17 up the relationship simply because it has become so poisonous.
01:21 Meghan doesn't feel guilty about Kate, because she feels that Kate should have been the one
01:25 person in the royal family to back her against every difficulty."
01:29 There wasn't always bad blood between the two, but Meghan revealed during her in-depth
01:32 interview with Oprah in 2021 that the relationship began to sour in the lead-up to her wedding
01:37 with Harry.
01:38 Calling the moment a "turning point," Meghan explained that the story that she had made
01:42 Kate cry before the wedding was a complete fabrication.
01:46 In fact, Kate was the one who made her cry.
01:48 "What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn't do, but
01:55 that happened to me."
01:57 The prevailing thread throughout those years seems to be that Meghan doesn't think Kate
02:01 was being supportive as she transitioned into the royal family, and it's going to take more
02:05 than cancer to change that.
02:07 Tom Quinn told the Mirror,
02:09 "Meghan still feels Kate was in the wrong and should apologize before they try to build
02:13 bridges.
02:14 Apparently, there are optics involved, too, as there always are."
02:18 Quinn further noted,
02:19 "She also doesn't want people saying that she is trying to make things up with Kate just
02:23 because Kate is ill."
02:24 The disinterest in repairing this relationship seems to be mutual.
02:28 In February, before Kate had revealed anything about her cancer to the public, a source told
02:32 Us Weekly,
02:33 "Kate is open to reconciling, though with Harry more so than Meghan.
02:37 She still has some hurt feelings over what Meghan did to her and Charlotte."
02:41 Quinn says that Harry, for his part, also wants to mend things with his sister-in-law,
02:45 noting,
02:46 "He really misses that warm, uncomplicated relationship, and he is torn between loyalty
02:51 to his wife and regret about the loss of the woman he was so close to."
02:55 He goes a step further by suggesting that Harry's eroded friendship with Kate was an
02:59 emotional blow second only to the loss of his mother.
03:03 Still, despite his rumored desire to visit his sister-in-law and attempt a reconciliation,
03:08 William and Kate allegedly don't want the drama associated with seeing Harry.
03:12 It sounds like there's a long road ahead if these in-laws are going to get back on each
03:16 other's good sides.
03:18 "I think they're going to get back on each other's good sides," Quinn said.
03:19 "I think they're going to get back on each other's good sides."
03:20 "I think they're going to get back on each other's good sides."
