Shocking footage shows the moment when an HGV driver smashed into the back of a stationary car and left a woman seriously injured.

Ian Halliday, 45, was behind the wheel of his Scania lorry when he ploughed into the rear of a learner driver vehicle and caused a three-car pileup.

The chilling incident unfolded on Speke Boulevard, in Liverpool, during wet conditions shortly before 9.30am on December 4 last year.

And the clip, taken from Halliday’s dashboard camera, revealed how he failed to slow down before colliding with a line of vehicles waiting in a traffic jam.

He was arrested following the crash and charged with causing serious injury by careless driving.

He indicated an initial guilty plea to the offence at magistrates' court on March 12.
