00:00 Israel's military says its investigation into the Israeli drone strikes that killed
00:04 seven aid workers in the Gaza Strip on Monday shows it was the result of a misidentification
00:09 in complex conditions.
00:11 It says it believed it was targeting Hamas operatives.
00:15 Instead, humanitarian workers belonging to the US-based food charity World Central Kitchen
00:21 were killed.
00:22 "The WCK vehicles were marked with the logo of the WCK organization on the roof.
00:29 However the cameras tracking the vehicles from above were unable to identify the logos
00:35 which were not visible at night.
00:38 This tragic mistake could and should have been prevented."
00:43 Two Israeli brigade officers who warded the drone strikes have been sacked.
00:47 Three other officers have been reprimanded.
00:49 The WCK is calling for an independent inquiry.
00:53 The UN is calling for investigations into the deaths of all eight workers killed in
00:57 the Gaza Strip in the last six months.
00:59 "The question is not this only specific incident.
01:05 One hundred ninety-six humanitarian workers have been killed and we want to know why each
01:12 one of them was killed."
01:15 Also on Friday, Israel said it would temporarily reopen the Erez border crossing and the port
01:20 of Ashdod to allow aid into Gaza.
01:23 More aid from Jordan will be allowed.
01:26 That comes after the US President Joe Biden spoke with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
01:29 Netanyahu in a tense phone call on Thursday.
01:34 Meanwhile humanitarian organizations such as UNICEF are continuing operations despite
01:39 Monday's killings.
01:41 "We recognize the risks.
01:43 This is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a humanitarian worker but
01:48 it is the most dangerous place in the world to be a child.
01:52 And so that's why we're here.
01:53 We're focusing on the job but of course we're saying that this can never happen again and
01:57 we're asking for assurances at the highest level that it won't."
02:03 The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that Israel's new measures may not
02:07 be enough to meet the Biden administration's demands for dramatic improvements in humanitarian
02:13 conditions in Gaza.
