00:00 arrives this weekend. I'll have all the details of that. Weather, morning Laura, not great news,
00:05 there's another storm heading our way isn't there? Yes and this one is named Kathleen and it's worth
00:11 reminding people why we name storms. We name one then when they're set to cause more widespread
00:15 disruption than just normal wet and windy weather but actually this was named by the Irish Met
00:20 Service and actually named after a scientist in Ireland. Now let's look at the detail of what's
00:25 happening and why. It's a really powerful jet stream that's driving across the Atlantic and this is the
00:30 latest satellite and radar, satellite from across the Atlantic showing weather systems queuing up. So
00:34 this is a hook of cloud that is bringing the storm for tomorrow but behind me this is an area of cloud
00:41 that's just leaving the eastern seaboard that's brought them some terrible conditions and a huge
00:45 storm there. So let's track the progress of this storm because this is the one that turns into
00:49 Kathleen as we head through the weekend. Isobars coming close together with a big southerly flow
00:53 bringing windy conditions through western areas of the UK and then here comes another wet and windy
00:59 spell of weather on Monday. So this one is the one that's just left the eastern seaboard where
01:03 they've had heavy rain yesterday, they had flooding and they had snowfall and they also had an
01:08 incredible thunderstorm. Check out this incredible picture. This is the Statue of Liberty being struck
01:14 by lightning. Dan Martland took this picture, these pictures, incredible pictures of this huge storm
01:19 that's just now clearing from the eastern seaboard that brought widespread heavy rainfall and some
01:23 snowfall. So yes, the storm from there is heading our way but in the meantime it is Kathleen that
01:28 arrives tomorrow. So that is our outlook for today. It's still unsettled with rain and even snow.
01:34 Tomorrow is when we see storm Kathleen arriving but also there'll be a lot of warmth and sunshine,
01:39 more on that in just a moment. This is the thing greeting us this morning. Rain for England, Wales
01:44 and Scotland but it's cold in the north so here we have a warning for snowfall until nine o'clock
01:49 this morning. The snow starts to ease as the whole band of rain moves northwards and this milder air
01:54 moves in. So a blustery day ahead. It is sunshine and heavy showers for England and Wales, more
02:00 persistent rain further north. Temperature wise in the north like yesterday cool to six to eight
02:04 but in the south in the sunshine like yesterday 18 maybe 19 degrees our top temperature. This
02:11 evening and overnight tonight then comes in our storm. First of all the winds increase, then the
02:16 rain arrives and this whole band of rain moves northwards. Now the focus for the windy conditions
02:21 are through western areas of the UK. That is where we have our warning in force. So western areas 60
02:27 to 70 mile an hour gusts of wind but worth pointing out across the south and east tomorrow very warm
02:32 maybe 22 degrees.
