00:04 Plans for solar farms covering 320 acres of Derbyshire farmland would decimate surrounding
00:09 villages and hinder the nation's ability to sustain itself, campaigners claim.
00:14 Protesters are working to fend off plans from Scottish firm Intelligent Alternatives, which
00:19 submitted early bids for two neighbouring solar farms in November.
00:23 Earlier this week, more than 40 campaigners gathered outside Kidsley Park farm, between
00:27 Smalley and Heaner, to make their presence known.
00:31 Intelligent Alternatives has yet to submit formal planning applications for the farms,
00:35 but environmental impact assessments were submitted back in November.
00:39 One scheme, Denby Farm, would see a 148 acre solar farm, capable of generating 40 megawatts,
00:46 built off Derby Road in Denby, just east of the Denby Pottery Complex.
00:51 A second scheme, the Kidsley Park Farm, would see a 180 acre solar farm, capable of generating
00:57 40 megawatts, built off Heaner Road, Smalley, covering fields between Heaner and the village.
01:02 Both sites would also include battery storage schemes, which would store energy of peak
01:07 demand or urgent supply.
01:11 A grandad who lives in Derbyshire has claimed his 105th world record on national television.
01:17 John Evans balanced a giant Easter bonnet, standing 7ft 6in tall and weighing 3 stone,
01:23 on his head when he appeared on the ITV show this morning on Good Friday.
01:27 He spent £300 on making the towering headwear, which he designed for a fun day at the care
01:31 home where his wife Gloria, who has dementia, now lives.
01:35 Devoted husband John will repeat his head balancing stunt with the bonnet in front of
01:39 Gloria and the residents of the Alexander Care Home in Eastwood on Saturday.
01:43 John, who lives in Ilkeston and celebrated his 77th birthday on Easter Sunday, has been
01:48 balancing items on his head for more than half a century.
01:51 He learnt the knack as a builder's labourer and his head balancing tally includes a mini
01:55 car, fridge freezer, a speedboat and even a juggling man.
01:59 John has now raised more than a quarter of a million pounds for good causes through his
02:03 unusual skill.
