Mancunians discuss the poshest places in Greater Manchester after Haigh in Wigan is selected as one of the UK’s poshest villages

Haigh in Wigan has been named among the UK’s poshest villages by the Telegraph  While Wigan may not be the first place that springs to mind when thinking of the poshest areas, a village within the borough is the only representative from Greater Manchester on the list.  The Telegraph used exclusive research provided by Savills which analysed the most desirable villages in Britain based on the combination of highest house prices, best lifestyle amenities, connectivity and aesthetic appeal.  We spoke to people on the streets of Manchester to find out their thoughts on the poshest places in Greater Manchester.

00:48 "Well I would say, erm, Montyn. Because they've got quite a lot of good restaurants,

00:57 there's not maybe a lot to do in town centre other than eating and drinking. But you've

01:05 got Worsley Woods quite close by where you can go walking, you've got the canal, the

01:10 Bridgewater Canal. So I would say definitely Montyn."

01:15 "I would say Worsley. It's like near Southwark. That's probably is the poshest place that

01:21 I know around that area."

01:23 "I know a lot of people that have, like they've bought houses like massive ones and

01:29 I know as well the area is quite famous to be like a posh area."

01:32 "Wimslow, Presbury."

01:33 "Wimslow, yeah. Wimslow. It's beautiful."

01:34 "That's it. It seems to be very affluent."

01:38 "I would say actually, er, one of the poshest places is not far from where I live, West

01:45 Orton, but, oh what's it called? Where the golf club is? Near Bolton School, on that

01:54 road, Bolton School. That's, oh it's beautiful there. They've all got swimming pools and

02:00 massive, oh yeah it's lovely. That is posh."

02:03 "I wouldn't have thought Wigan as being posh. My friend's from there and he says that that's

02:10 where you put pies on barms and eat them and that doesn't sound very posh to me."

02:15 "Manchester in general doesn't feel very posh to me."

02:18 "I'm throwing up Charlton but I have no idea if that is really accurate."
