00:00 A WrestleMania 40 card mystery? Major WWE debut plans? Matt Cardona shows up in AEW?
00:09 And after the numbers did, in fact, lie in our first poll, I will be revealing the results
00:15 of our second poll to objectively decide what is the best wrestling promo of all time.
00:23 The Pipe Bomb or Steiner Math? I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk
00:31 News. I hope you had a lovely Easter and got all
00:39 the eggs you asked for. But now it's time for pro wrestling to superkick the Easter
00:44 bunny in the face! Because it's WrestleMania week. Only 5 more sleeps until WrestleMania.
00:50 And then only one more sleep after that until it's WrestleMania again. But who is the
00:55 WrestleMania mystery? WrestleMania 40 isn't just big because it's
01:01 literally XL in Roman numerals. It's also a number divisible by 10, which WWE typically
01:07 treats as a big milestone event because it spells disaster for you, Samoa Joe. No, dammit,
01:13 get out of my head! WrestleMania 30, for instance, started with
01:17 Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock sharing an in-ring promo for the surprise
01:23 opening. Over the past few weeks, many legend names
01:26 have been reported as possible cameo appearances. The Wrestling Observer wrote that Austin,
01:31 The Undertaker and John Cena have been in talks with WWE about turning up at the show.
01:36 WrestleVotes claimed the Rock Cody beatdown angle from the 25th March episode of Raw featured
01:41 Cena, Austin and Trish Stratus on a production truck in the background as "Easter eggs"
01:47 for a potential Mania surprise. And a number of other veterans have also been
01:51 supposedly contacted, like Alundra Blades, Bob Orton, Kane, Ron Simmons, Jerry Lawler,
01:57 Jimmy Hart, Michelle McCool, JBL and one name with the most storyline significance, Bloodline
02:03 family member and Usodad, Rikishi. Dave Meltzer has added more on the likelihood
02:10 of Cena and/or Austin appearing at Mania 40, writing he was "told not to read into that
02:16 regarding the main events", suggesting they will be at the show, but won't actually
02:21 get involved in the Bloodline vs Cody and Seth Night One tag match or the Roman vs Rhodes
02:27 Night Two main event. However, Meltzer reveals there is a mystery
02:31 slot on the card for the show. For what it's worth, Cena has been publicly
02:36 talking about how he's not doing anything on WrestleMania weekend, and he recently posted
02:40 a photo of Roman Reigns on his super weird Instagram account.
02:44 The 46-year-old has also repeatedly said he will retire from pro wrestling when he turns
02:49 50, which means he'll have until WrestleMania 43 to have one last Mania match.
02:54 With The Rock not currently wrestling on Night Two as he was originally planned, perhaps
02:59 he could have an in-ring segment with Austin and Cena, recalling the famous Mania 30 opening,
03:04 but airbrushing out Hulk Hogan with Cena. Or maybe the mystery slot is for arguably
03:09 Rock's true arch-nemesis on and off screen, WWE's Chief Content Officer Triple H.
03:17 My video diving into their insanely mirrored careers and backstage jealousy went live at
03:22 the weekend, here's a clip. "The first ever episode of SmackDown on
03:26 the 26th of August would rightfully see The Rock in its main event, and it would also
03:31 see Triple H's first ever world title defense." You could've argued that's the perfect
03:38 place to put the belt on the beloved babyface the show's named after, but insteadā€¦
03:43 We got Shawn Michaels' tiny referee shorts. It's like I'm wearingā€¦
03:48 "Nothing at all. Nothing at all. Nothing at all."
03:52 Stupid sexy Michaels. Michaels, despite "retiring" in early '98,
03:56 had agreed to be the special guest referee for the inaugural SmackDown's main event.
04:01 He called the match down the middle. Until, rock bottom, running the ropes for a people's
04:05 elbow, and HBK hits a sweet chim music handing Hunter the win.
04:10 But the physicality between them might've carried on backstage.
04:14 Dwayne's father Rocky Johnson has recalled in an interview, Dwayne almost killed Heartbreak
04:20 Kid. Watch that using the link in the video description.
04:22 Open it up as another tab right now so you can watch it as soon as you're done watching
04:26 this. We're all super proud of that video, it took a lot of research and writing, so
04:30 please, please do share it around. Leave a comment, do the thumbs up button.
04:36 Two new matches were added to the WrestleMania 40 card on Friday's episode of SmackDown,
04:41 which will see the Latino World Orders Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee taking on Santos, Escobar
04:46 and Dominik Mysterio in a tag team grudge match. And following Jade Cargill's, like,
04:51 fifth main roster debut, she'll team with Bianca Belair and Naomi against Damage Control's
04:56 Dakota Kai, Asuka and Kairi Sane. Cargill saved Belair and Naomi from a Damage
05:01 Control beatdown on the 29th March episode, but in true Jeff Harvey style, not before
05:06 she'd made her own entrance, slowly walking down like a badass.
05:11 Different to her Royal Rumble appearance, she'd actually made the full version of
05:14 her entrance earlier in the night - complete with laser curtain, smoke machine and music
05:19 that had riffs that sound like the X-Men theme tune, fitting with her Stormlight gimmick.
05:26 According to Fightful Select, the specifics of Cargill's entrance have been worked on
05:30 for some time, where they took advice on everything from camera angles, lighting and sound.
05:36 There are currently 12 announced matches for WrestleMania 40. If you're going by AEW
05:41 standards, that's pretty light. Even more so with Mania split across two nights. But
05:46 according to Dave Meltzer, there is still one match to be announced.
05:50 The Pride vs. The Final Testament. Wrestling Observer has written that Bobby
05:55 Lashley and the Street Profits vs. Karrion Kross and the Authors of Pain is booked to
05:59 be billed as a Philadelphia Street Fight to be added to the Mania card. The card, as of
06:05 last week, was seven matches on Saturday and six on Sunday. Perhaps there's only six
06:10 matches on night two, because that's when the mystery slot could take place.
06:15 But that's not the only change expected to happen this week.
06:19 Austin Theory and Grace and Waller beat the Street Profits on the 29th March SmackDown,
06:24 meaning they'll be included in the six pack tag team title ladder match at WrestleMania.
06:28 Which also includes Champions, The Judgment Day, DIY, The Awesome Truth, New Day and New
06:34 Catch Republic. But according to Meltzer, as of last week,
06:38 pretty deadly were listed in Theory and Waller's place, and a backstage meeting is planned
06:43 to discuss taking them out of the ladder match and putting pretty deadly back in. I don't
06:49 know why that's happening. Waller then referenced this on X, posting a
06:52 joke report attributed to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that 'A Town Down Under' is
06:57 the best tag team in the world. This week isn't just about WrestleMania
07:01 40 though, over to you Tempest!
07:26 So make sure you tune in 3pm British time on April 5th to see 40 years of WrestleMania
07:31 the Tournament only on PartsFunknown!
07:54 Well, it won't include NXT Champion Iliad Dragunov.
08:05 According to Fightful Select, there are no immediate plans to call up Dragunov to the
08:09 main roster, but he's expected to be promoted once he loses the NXT Championship.
08:14 So not looking good for Tony D'Angelo at this Saturday's Staaaaaaand and Deliver!
08:19 Woah, woah, woah, who's fighting for that title?
08:22 Debunking previous speculation, Dragunov isn't still in NXT because of his family living
08:27 in Germany. In fact, WWE is accommodating Iliad travelling back and forth to spend time
08:32 with them. And, if anything, he's got a great reputation in the company, because he's
08:37 very well liked backstage, he's very easy to work with, elevates everyone he wrestles,
08:42 and apparently means very little direction from the producers, which is rare in NXT.
08:47 But when Dragunov does eventually get called up, the main roster has big plans for him,
08:53 with his push being described as similar to Gunther's initial run, who won the Intercontinental
08:58 title two months after being called up, and still holds it to this day, almost two years
09:04 later. The comparison with Gunther is exciting, not
09:07 just because that should make Dragunov an incredibly exciting new presence on the main
09:12 roster, but also because of their brilliant matches in WXW, Progress and NXT UK dating
09:18 back to 2016. Hopefully Triple H decides to continue their forever feud.
09:24 Speaking of shared historiesā€¦ Former Edgehead Matt Cardona made his return
09:28 to AEW on Saturday's episode of Collision, answering the Cope Oakland Challenge for the
09:34 TNT title. Back when Cardona first started in WWE as
09:38 Zack Ryder, he teamed with Curt Hawkins as the Edgeheads in Copeland's 2007 faction.
09:44 Which is over 20 years ago. This is a far cry from Cardona's first appearance
09:49 in AEW in 2020, shortly after he was released from WWE. Back then, he just seemed like Cody's
09:56 mate, wrestling as his Ryder gimmick, but now under his new name. He got a pay-per-view
10:01 victory over the Dark Order at All Out, but his limited appearance deal wasn't extended.
10:06 Since then, Cardona has become the self-professed King of the Indies, and PWI-professed two-time
10:13 Indie Wrestler of the Year, becoming a central heel on IMPACT, GCW and DDT. It was rumoured
10:19 that he'd be joining his real-life wife Chelsea Green in WWE since the end of 2023,
10:24 but that hasn't materialised. Copeland managed to retain, and then set up
10:29 a feud with Malakai Black afterwards. Apparently Cardona was originally scheduled to defend
10:34 his Squared Circle Expo Championship against Ultimo Dragon on the same night as Collision.
10:40 This was changed, and Cardona instead dropped the title to Nick Nemeth, the former Dolph
10:44 Ziggler, the previous night, freeing him up to fly to Canada and appear on Collision.
10:49 As of right now, he is not signed with AEW, and remains a free agent.
10:54 It's now time to settle the Pipe Bomb vs Math debate once and for all. No taking backses.
11:00 If you've not been following this story so far, Luke outrageously picked Steiner Math
11:06 in our best wrestling promos of all time episode of Tables, Lists and Chats. I picked CM Punk's
11:12 Pipe Bomb. And now loads of comments keep saying that Steiner Math is better than Pipe
11:17 Bomb, which is ridiculous and just a way to troll me.
11:20 I ran a poll last Wednesday for 5,000 people to objectively decide the winner, and Steiner
11:26 Math won, with 64% of the vote, which was obviously bots. So I had to do another poll,
11:34 this time with a larger sample size of over 50,000 people. And now I can announceā€¦
11:41 And the winner isā€¦ Steiner Math at 56%! God f***ing dammit!
11:52 Wait a secondā€¦ It'sā€¦ It'sā€¦ It'sā€¦ It's the 1st of Aprilā€¦ It's April Fools!
12:02 Ok, ok, good joke everyone. Pulled another one on good ol' Oli. Ha ha, ha ha, ha ha.
12:11 Right, ok, so you obviously can't be trusted to take this very serious topic seriously,
12:16 so I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands. In tomorrow's episode, I'm
12:21 going to tell Luke exactly how I'm going to prove Pipe Bomb greater than Maths.
12:33 Until then, please watch my video on the eternal rivalry of The Rock and Triple H.
