00:00 Ava Mendez reveals what made her step away from acting.
00:04 During an appearance on the Today Show,
00:06 the actress opens up about pausing her career
00:09 to be a full-time mom,
00:11 and how her and Ryan Gosling balanced their work lives.
00:14 How did you go from, you know,
00:16 acting to being a full-time mom, which is a huge role?
00:19 It was like a no-brainer.
00:20 I'm so lucky, and I was like,
00:23 if I can have this time with my children,
00:25 and I still worked, I just didn't act,
00:27 because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away.
00:31 It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement
00:34 that it was like, okay, he's gonna work,
00:37 and I'm gonna work, I'm just gonna work here.
00:39 The actress goes on to talk about
00:41 Ryan's iconic performance of "I'm Just Ken"
00:44 at the 2024 Oscars,
00:46 and her posting on Instagram afterwards,
00:48 telling him it's time to come home.
00:50 He went and he did his job.
00:53 He just happens to be really good at his job,
00:56 and he did, and he came home.
00:58 And actually, you posted on Instagram,
01:00 you're like, hey, great performance,
01:02 now come home, 'cause it's bedtime.
01:04 Because that's what it's about.
01:05 You go, you do your job the best you can,
01:08 and then you come home.
01:09 And even though she wasn't there physically,
01:11 Ava continued to support Ryan from afar.
01:14 In fact, earlier in the day,
01:16 the hit star shared a reel on Instagram
01:18 outside of Ryan's dressing room,
01:20 captioning the post, "Always by my man."
01:23 As fans recall, Ryan and Ava first met
01:26 on the set of the 2012 film "A Place Beyond the Pines,"
01:30 and now parent two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada.
01:33 While they have kept their romance out of the spotlight,
01:36 they both still gush about the movie
01:38 that brought them together.
01:40 With Ryan exclusively telling E! News
01:42 at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival
01:45 his thoughts on working with the actress again.
01:47 Quote, "That was the greatest experience I had
01:50 "making a film, so I hope."
01:52 And while accepting an award at the festival,
01:55 the actor reflected on what his career
01:57 has given him in life,
01:59 including, quote, "The girl of his dreams."
02:02 I for one have been so lucky.
02:04 I've gotten to go to the moon,
02:07 be a motorcycle bank robber,
02:09 a getaway driver, waltz through the stars,
02:13 be an elementary school teacher,
02:15 albeit a crack addicted one.
02:16 (audience laughing)
02:19 Become a replicant from the future,
02:21 a gangster from the past,
02:22 the love-lorn stuntman,
02:23 and most recently, thanks to Greta,
02:26 a 70-year-old crotchless doll.
02:28 (audience laughing)
02:31 But most importantly,
02:40 I got to meet the girl of my dreams,
02:42 Ava Mendez.
02:44 (audience cheering)
02:47 And have two dream children.
02:50 I dreamed of one day making movies,
02:52 and now movies have made my life a dream.
