Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reached a deal to avoid going to trial on securities fraud charges from 2015. Paxton agreed to pay nearly $300,000 in restitution, take legal ethics classes, and complete 100 hours of community service as part of the deal. If Paxton fulfills the terms over the next 18 months, prosecutors will dismiss the felony charges against him. Paxton has faced corruption allegations for nearly a decade but survived an impeachment trial in the Texas Senate last year. The securities fraud charges stem from allegations Paxton misled investors and failed to disclose his own profiting on investment advice. Paxton pleaded not guilty to the charges and has maintained his innocence throughout.
