Marie Curie is a charity dedicated to end of life care. They provide home care and care in their own centres for those who don’t have much time left, but it’s not just the people they care for who benefit from the charity as they provide much needed service to family members who often might not know what to do faced with such an impactful situation.

00:00 Yeah, and I think that sometimes the stigma is it's just you look after somebody who's
00:05 passing but it's not about that, it's about the family and I didn't know what to say,
00:11 I didn't know what to do. My wife is a healthcare support worker in Heath Hospital and looks
00:18 after people but we both needed somebody to go, this is what we need to do next. And that's
00:23 great and I think whatever training Marie Curie gives to those nurses, it's first class
00:28 because they be how you want them to be without you even telling them how you want them to
00:34 be.
00:35 Marie Curie looks after anyone in need. Their end of life care helps thousands of people
00:39 every year. Actress Suzanne Packer, known for her work on Casualty and Hobby City, said
00:44 the care her father received for cancer and the support her mother received during the
00:47 time has left her a lifetime supporter of the charity.
00:51 Well, I absolutely adore the work of Marie Curie. I have particular personal experience
00:58 since my father died and he died at home but the wonderful care of the Marie Curie nurses
01:05 who came to my mother's house and it was quite interesting because I observed them for the
01:10 first time and I always had an appreciation of Marie Curie nurses but I really appreciated
01:16 what they did and it was quite interesting how they were as much a comfort for my mum
01:22 who was caring for my dad while my dad was dying.
01:25 It's hard to know what people need when they're in difficult times but Neil says the nurses
01:29 at Marie Curie know exactly what to say and how to help people, even when they don't know
01:34 what they need themselves.
01:35 The nurses were just incredible. They have this knack of knowing what to say and how
01:36 to be and that was the first moment where I've experienced a loved one being cared
01:37 for in their last days but also being spoken to as if they were still alive and that was
01:38 just incredible.
01:39 So the language, the way the nurses behave is just phenomenal.
