Vietnam News | Pho for thought

A recent Pho Festival celebrated the long-standing tradition of pho-making in Van Cu Village, in the northern province of Nam Dinh.

The village is considered the birthplace of pho (beef noodles), with locals initiating the dish in the early 20th century. Authorities aim to secure national recognition for the local pho brand as an intangible cultural heritage.

00:43 I've tried pho maybe 30 or 40 times.
00:47 One of my most favorite soups.
00:51 And whenever I have a chance, I eat it.
00:53 I love pho.
00:54 And I was really surprised because actually,
00:56 few foreigners know that pho came from Nam Bi.

04:10 It's our second year in Vietnam.
04:14 We really enjoy Vietnam a lot, and especially what
04:16 is connected to Vietnam is Pho.
04:18 So we cannot imagine if somebody said Vietnam
04:20 and without Pho, without banh mi,
04:23 without your special cuisine.
04:24 It's not only my opinion, but whoever
04:26 is traveling to Vietnam and whoever
04:28 is thinking about Vietnamese cuisine.
04:30 So Pho is something that cannot be missed.
04:34 I think it's very good.
04:35 It has this Swedish salty flavor, which I really like.
04:40 And the meat makes it better, because I like meat.
04:44 We have something called chicken soup, which is
04:47 almost everywhere in Europe.
04:49 It's not really similar, but it's the closest thing I know.
04:54 What makes Pho so special is you have so many different kind
04:57 of Pho.
04:58 First, different kind of noodle.
05:00 Today, I tried already two different kind of noodle,
05:02 like Pho Gac, and the normal Pho Banh Am Bich.
05:07 The Vietnamese culture is so rich,
05:09 and you have so many different kind of Pho.
05:12 And that's why I'm here also to try to promote it and introduce
05:16 it to foreigners.
