00:00 A 62-year-old man in Massachusetts with end-stage renal disease becomes the first human to receive
00:07 a new kidney from a genetically modified pig.
00:10 The four-hour surgery was performed March 16 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in

00:18 The hospital says in a statement that the patient, Richard Sleiman, is recovering well
00:22 and is expected to be discharged soon.
00:25 The kidney was provided by eGenesis of Cambridge, Massachusetts, from a pig that had been genetically

00:35 compatibility.
00:37 The hospital calls the surgery a major milestone in the quest to provide more readily available

00:44 The United Network for Organ Sharing says more than 100,000 people in the U.S. await
