00:00 Hi, my name is Immy and welcome to Immy's Cakes and Bakes in Newport, Shropshire.
00:04 So I went to University of Warwick to be trained to be a primary school teacher
00:08 and then in my third year it was lockdown so I was at home writing my dissertation
00:13 and I just started baking cakes just for a little distraction really and I made my
00:16 mum's birthday cake, popped it on Facebook and it just went from there. It was towards the like
00:21 June/July I finished my dissertation, done my exams, handed everything in and then I just
00:28 started like baking from home and posting things on Facebook from my mum and dad's kitchen
00:33 which started to get a little bit too much after a while because I just I wouldn't let them in the
00:38 kitchen, I'd ban them, I'd be like no no hair, no one in the kitchen, I don't want anyone in there.
00:42 Just a whirlwind of emotions, it was I was so proud because I always said I wanted a shop in
00:46 Newport and that was the ultimate dream but like now I've got the shop in Newport I'm like what's
00:50 next, what do I want to do, where am I going next but it was just absolutely amazing to have those
00:55 keys at the end of August. So we're really busy and it's just got busier and busier like the past
00:59 couple of weeks have been busier than the few weeks leading up to Christmas which I'm quite
01:03 shocked by to be honest I thought January/February would be a little bit quieter but it's been the
01:07 complete opposite so it's really nice to see a lot of regular customers returning, a lot of new
01:11 customers and everyone just trying our bakes and coming back which isn't my main thing and yeah I'm
01:17 really really enjoying it. Old school cake is the most popular one and every time anyone asks me
01:21 they never believe me at all and I'm like no it's just a classic, classic sponge, icing, sprinkles
01:27 you can't really go wrong especially with a bit of custard. At the minute there's a the army are
01:31 doing like a project over in Kenya so the minute my rocky road and brownies are being sent off to
01:36 Kenya which is really cool and I have friends that take my like cakes over to Dubai when they
01:41 go on holiday which is really nice, my one friend took my cakes over to France which is really cool
01:47 so yeah they do they're a bit worldwide now which is really nice. I think going forward I would like
01:52 other premises for sure but I definitely want to focus on getting this one perfect and right and
01:58 obviously it's not always going to be perfect but I want to get it up and running to a point where
02:02 I want to expand into other premises and probably maybe another unit where I can bake from because
02:08 our kitchen as big as it is is definitely not big enough for the amount of stock we're producing.
