Alison McGovern has hit out at the prime minister’s plan for immigration, saying that she “doesn’t believe that Rishi Sunak can achieve anything on immigration.” It comes after the Mr Sunak’s Rwanda deportation plan has been hit by further delay after defiant peers dug their heels in and inflicted a series of fresh defeats against the controversial policy. 00:57 when my constituents have dealt with George Osborne's austerity, the problems
01:01 in our public finances, I think it's a disgrace that they have wasted so much
01:05 time and money on this. As I say we've got an alternative because we know when
01:09 it comes to fixing our immigration system you've got to do the basics well.
01:13 Get to the criminal gangs, police them properly, like find those people and
01:17 arrest them and deal with the backlog.
