00:00 Lots of people have been in touch with me to ask me what I think of Ofcom's ruling against GB News
00:05 and against me for a couple of programmes I presented.
00:08 Well, for once, I'm going to criticise people who are old-fashioned.
00:12 Normally, being old-fashioned is great, but I fear Ofcom thinks the news is still being presented
00:17 by Alva Liddell, a BBC News presenter from the middle of the 20th century,
00:22 who was authoritative and clear and was the only voice in news.
00:26 That world's gone.
00:28 We now have presenters who aren't the trusted voice of authority.
00:32 We have people from the BBC who go off to present left-wing podcasts.
00:36 We have people from the BBC like Hugh Edwards, who aren't as
00:40 respected as perhaps you might hope they ought to be.
00:43 And Channel 4, Channel 4 News, is a left-wing outlet.
00:46 Everyone knows that.
00:48 I loved being interviewed by Jon Snow.
00:50 I think very highly of him, but no one could pretend that he's a Tory.
00:54 Indeed, I think if I suggested he were,
00:57 he'd sue me.
00:58 So Ofcom is simply out of date.
01:01 There is a diversity of news.
01:04 It's not the authoritative 1950s-style minister, is there, anything you would like to say.
01:10 It is a vibrant, widespread view of news across a spectrum of opinion.
01:17 Free speech requires that, and free speech trumps bureaucracy.
