A man has died and with a second, a 21-year-old, rescued and taken to hospital in critical condition, 26 of the stranded miners have been rescued, after becoming trapped inside the goldmine in Ballarat Victoria.

00:00 Yesterday, about five o'clock, our organisers got a call from our members letting them know
00:14 that two miners had been trapped underground. They were involved in air-legging, which is
00:20 a manual style of mining, and allegedly were working on their unsupported ground when it
00:27 collapsed. Shortly after, our organisers turned up on the site and were informed that one
00:33 of the miners had been killed. We've had some concerns with this mine, with
00:39 our members working underground, unsupported ground, in the past. Since the new takeover,
00:47 they got rid of their senior safety officer and a couple of other employees that were
00:53 concerned about safety on site.
