Google has confirmed its AI chatbot Gemini, formerly known as Bard, will not answer questions about elections. This applies to elections in the US and globally, ahead of numerous votes worldwide in 2024. If asked about an election, Gemini will respond that it's still learning and direct users to traditional Google Search. Google explained the restriction is due to the many upcoming elections and "out of an abundance of caution." Gemini has been improving since its rebrand from Bard but also faced criticism for failing to preserve historical context in generated images.
