00:06 Today's event is about Hari Bantuan Guaman Majlis Peguam.
00:12 This is our new initiative where we want to put a booth at all the courts
00:18 all across Peninsular Malaysia with the hope that the public,
00:23 when they come to courts, they will see the booth and they'll see that they are
00:26 able to actually get legal advice and legal representation.
00:30 This is a public place, so members of the public come in and
00:34 out of the court all the time.
00:36 And I think this is the best place for the booth to be at.
00:40 We obviously we will have road shows as well at all the states.
00:44 At every state we will have a booth.
00:47 And every first Wednesday of the month,
00:51 we will actually have this Hari Bantuan Guaman.
00:54 But you can see even from Kuala Lumpur courts, the booths are open every day.
01:00 So it may not necessarily be just confined to only that one day in a month.
01:06 We will go from state to state, we keep promoting it.
01:11 And we hope that, and apart from the booth,
01:15 even our bar premises, we also have a legal aid center there.
01:21 So if they can't find anyone at legal aid center, if they have a case in court,
01:26 they can just come to court and go up to any of the booths and seek that advice.
01:30 We are probably the only bar organization in the whole world where our own members
01:35 contribute on a yearly basis, 100 ringgit.
01:39 And we use these funds in order to distribute to all the legal aid centers
01:44 in Peninsular Malaysia.
01:46 And those funds will be used for all the disbursements.
01:50 So your filing fees, your traveling, all those things that the lawyer has to
01:54 actually incur when they're doing the cases for the clients,
01:57 those will be taken from those subscription.
02:00 We have been able to manage all the expenses for
02:07 maybe the last 30 years at 100 ringgit per annum without seeking an increase.
02:14 And putting too much of a burden on our members.
02:17 But our members are very, very cooperative.
02:20 We do this on a pro bono basis.
02:23 This is our way of actually giving back to the society.
