Hogs' Ross Lovich, Dylan Carter, Ty Wilmsmeyer on bats breaking out again in another rule-rule win in weekend sweep.
Transcript
00:00 - Yeah, Dylan, just first off,
00:01 what was it like to be back on the mound
00:03 and, you know, kind of, I guess,
00:05 how does it kind of wrap up the rehab journey for you,
00:07 that feeling today?
00:09 - First, it was nerve-wracking, I'm not going to lie.
00:12 Just haven't really been out in a game since so long.
00:15 So just being able to settle my nerves was a big key.
00:20 And now after it's just like, all right,
00:22 let's, it's time to ride for the rest of the year.
00:24 The rehab process, man, it's long.
00:27 It was very long.
00:28 And just being able to throw a baseball game
00:33 after five months was, I mean, it was,
00:36 that was probably the happiest day of my life.
00:37 And now here we are, I'm getting a pitch again.
00:39 So rehab was, it was long, but it was,
00:43 I worked hard and able to be out there to death with my guys.
00:47 - You said long, Dave says it was kind of incredible
00:50 just how short it was, the rehab.
00:52 I know it felt long, but he says you attacked it.
00:54 What does, what does that mean?
00:55 Like, how do you, how do you attack rehab?
00:56 Like how can you kind of explain how you were aggressive
00:59 in getting back to the field?
01:01 - Every day, whatever, Corey, our trainer
01:03 and the doctors provided me with rehab exercises
01:07 and the throwing progression.
01:10 I just, I mean, I did it every single day.
01:13 Like I didn't take a day off
01:14 from the day I got out of surgery until today.
01:17 It's still rehab.
01:17 So it's not a fun rehab.
01:21 I will say that it's mentally exhausting,
01:24 physically exhausting, but in the end it is worth it.
01:27 - You threw so many pitches down in the bullpen yesterday.
01:31 Did you think you'd get this opportunity this weekend
01:33 after you didn't get to get in yesterday?
01:36 - Yeah, I texted Coach Hobbs first thing this morning.
01:39 I was like, I feel great today.
01:40 I'm ready to, I'm ready to throw.
01:41 And he said, excellent.
01:44 And if opportunity persists,
01:45 like we're going to get you in there.
01:47 And, you know, first outing, you wanted it to be clean.
01:52 You didn't want to stress outing.
01:53 Like he didn't want me to have to go out there
01:55 and everything be perfect.
01:56 He just wanted me to let it rip and get my feet wet again.
02:00 And he used the term, rip the bandaid off.
02:02 And now the bandaid's ripped off.
02:04 It's time to get after it.
02:06 - For Ross and Ty, they went up five to four
02:08 in the top of the fifth.
02:09 And then you guys really put it on for two innings.
02:12 Did that maybe motivate you,
02:14 let a fire under you or something?
02:16 - Yeah, I mean, obviously we got punched in the mouth
02:18 right there.
02:18 They have a big inning, kind of take a lead on us there.
02:21 And just the kind of energy in the dugout,
02:23 just the belief that we're going to win and punch back.
02:26 And we're able to get some guys on,
02:27 get a few big hits.
02:28 Ross with his first razorback bomb, pretty cool to see.
02:31 So yeah, just punching back right there
02:33 and getting guys on base and keep the line turning.
02:36 - Yeah, there was no panic in our dugout.
02:38 We know they're a good team,
02:39 but we just have so much self-belief
02:42 and we knew that we were going to get it done
02:44 and we're going to do whatever it takes to get it done.
02:47 - You as a team scored 13 runs today
02:50 with two outs and 23 over the last couple of days.
02:53 What was the key to that?
02:55 - I think just confidence and self-belief.
02:58 We're a super talented team
02:59 and the more that we believe in ourselves and each other,
03:02 I think good things are going to happen.
03:05 - Yeah, just kind of going off that,
03:08 we know we're a good ball club
03:09 and it's just grinding, even with two strikes, two outs.
03:12 Not until the final bell dings,
03:15 but we know we're going to keep fighting
03:16 for our guys next to us.
03:18 - Dylan, obviously it's been a long rehab journey,
03:22 but just your career overall,
03:23 from Crowder to Redshirt and to last year, this year,
03:26 just how much different do you feel confidence-wise
03:29 like as a pitcher and as a person starting this year
03:31 compared to maybe years past in your career?
03:33 - I will say my confidence level
03:35 is a lot higher than what it's been.
03:38 When I first got here, it was just kind of like,
03:41 I mean, it's Division I, it's SEC.
03:44 Like, I mean, there was a bunch of nerves.
03:47 Confidence wasn't really there.
03:48 And then last year, my confidence was high, I got hurt.
03:52 And it was like, I told the doctors and I told coaches,
03:55 like, I'm going to come back
03:56 and be better than what I was last year.
03:58 And throughout the bullpen process
04:01 and the Live A/B sessions,
04:03 like I could tell that I was better.
04:05 My pitch ability was better.
04:08 My pitch sequencing was better.
04:10 All my pitches in general was better.
04:14 And so that leads to more confidence.
04:17 And so it's pretty hot right now.
04:20 - Ross and Ty, I don't want to say you guys
04:23 didn't compete for your spots at Missouri,
04:24 but on this team, there's like 13 position players
04:26 who probably have an argument to start every day.
04:28 Just mentally, what's it like approaching it for this team
04:31 where you kind of have to be locked in every day
04:33 and kind of earn your spot every day?
04:34 Just how different is it on this team
04:36 compared to years past?
04:37 - Yeah, there's a lot of great guys in that clubhouse.
04:40 A lot of really, really good ballplayers.
04:41 We're a very deep team.
04:42 And as close as we are,
04:44 we're rooting for the guys next to us,
04:45 even if they're competing for our spots.
04:47 But we know the guy next to us is going to get it done.
04:50 And if we don't produce, we know someone else will.
04:53 And there's a little bit of added pressure there for sure,
04:55 because we want to be in the lineup playing.
04:56 But at the end of the day,
04:58 as long as we're winning ballgames,
04:59 it doesn't really matter to us.
05:00 - Yeah, I think just controlling what you can control.
05:03 And when you're not in there,
05:06 you're rooting for the guy to do well,
05:08 because you want to see the team do well.
05:09 And then when you're in there,
05:11 you're trying to make the most of it.
05:12 And quality at bats, pitch by pitch, I think really helps.
05:15 And yeah, just try to simplify everything and get it done.
05:20 - Ty, you had that two run single
05:23 in the bottom of fifth to break the tie.
05:26 Just, and you know,
05:29 just how are you feeling after that?
05:30 Do you think it's a confidence booster
05:31 for you going forward?
05:33 - Yeah, it's absolutely a confidence booster.
05:35 Anytime you get a two strike, two out knock like that
05:38 to put the team up, it certainly,
05:40 it makes you feel good inside.
05:42 I haven't been swinging it as well as I'd like to,
05:43 but hopefully it gets us back on track
05:45 and rolling like we know we can.
05:47 - Ross and Ty, did you guys back up each other
05:50 in the lineup at Mizzou, like you did today?
05:53 - There were a handful of times.
05:54 He let off quite a bit and I was hitting nine holes.
05:56 So kind of some familiar territory there for sure.
