00:52 leadership model. The 26-year-old spin bowler will be replacing Tammy Beaumont as the skipper
00:58 across both formats of the Women's County campaign this season.
01:02 England international Beaumont has opted to step down due to her commitments both internationally
01:07 and in franchise cricket.
01:08 Belt has enjoined more than 10 years with the horses, where she's made more than 100

01:15 Kent women's season is set to begin next month, with a confirmation of their 2024 schedule

01:22 Maidstone United co-owner Oliver Ash has estimated Maidstone United's famous FA Cup run to have
01:28 been worth £800,000.
01:31 The Stones won more than £350,000 in prize money, with their share of ticket and broadcasting

01:38 However, after losing more than £200,000 last season, it's believed there will be no

02:38 And in football, Gillingham defender Max Emma is closing in on 400 appearances for his club.
02:44 The 32-year-old has been with the Medway side on and off since 2015, and says he wants the

02:54 It comes after a loss for the Gilles on Tuesday against Barrow, which dropped them to ninth

03:43 And now, a fencing club in Sevenoaks is hoping to keep the sport going for young people in
03:47 Kent.
03:48 The club is looking for a boost of £7,000 worth of equipment.
03:51 The specialist clothing is for their under 13s fences as it can be expensive for families
03:56 to fork out on.
03:57 The team hopes that these young people, as well as their under 17s international fencers,
04:02 that more will be inspired to get into the sport.
04:04 Well, Finn McDermott has this report.
04:07 Much like the equipment you need to wear for it, fencing can be hard to get into.
04:12 Unlike some sports needing just a field and a ball to get young people involved, it can
04:16 be tough to find the funds for swords, wires, plastrons, special shoes and breeches and
04:23 even tougher for families to afford them.
04:26 Every year, England Fencing grants certain clubs across the country funding, sometimes
04:30 in the form of training, coaches or just money.
04:34 "Well, I'm here at the MX Fencing Club in Sevenoaks where the next generation of English
04:39 talent are honing and sharpening their skills ahead of international contest."
04:45 This year a substantial portion of the grant budget was given to MX Fencing Club in Sevenoaks.
04:51 This took the form of £7,000 worth of masks, swords and other equipment, which was given
04:56 a unique design.
04:58 But what exactly would this do for the club?
05:01 "So, honestly, what it does for us is it removes one hurdle completely.
05:06 Right, so obviously we have got a lot of ambitions to expand the club and bring in some more
05:11 people and show the sport around to them.
05:13 One of the biggest hurdles for that is having the kit to actually keep them safe while they
05:17 are doing it and also just fencing kit in general is quite expensive.
05:21 So if we were trying to do this off our own back, we probably couldn't.
05:24 So having this kit come, it just completely removes one of the hurdles from our equation.
05:31 We have all the stuff we need now.
05:32 Now we just need to make sure we get the bodies to actually put in it."
05:35 The club has a strong group of fencers ranging from under 13s, under 17s and adult fencers,
05:40 but the new equipment is specifically for the youngest fencers, who need specially sized
05:46 equipment.
05:47 And the club hopes this will encourage more youngsters to follow in the footsteps of their
05:50 under 17s, some of whom are representing England in the Cadet Commonwealth Championships in
05:55 New Zealand.

17:21 How do you mentally prepare for a challenge like this?
17:26 What's it like?
17:29 A lot of people say, "God, it's a huge challenge."
17:33 But I suppose everything, when you approach it as in a daily,
17:38 then it's less scary, I suppose, or for me it is.
17:43 And I just think, well, each day I'm getting to do something
17:46 that I absolutely love, empowers me, my mental health,
17:51 my social, physical well-being.
17:56 So it's a case of, yeah, taking one day at a time,
18:01 put 306 of those days together, and boom, shakalaka,
18:06 you've got this crazy woman walking around the UK.
18:10 And joining us live on our programme.

18:21 Tell me about the actual journey itself.
18:24 Are there highs and lows while you're on the walk?
18:26 What's it been like this week?
18:30 Yeah, I started out with a 20kg pack with my tent and everything,
18:35 and I've trained with 15, which I'm completely comfortable with.
18:40 But the 20k was, I thought, can I do this for 10 months?
18:45 So I've thought smart, and it's just a case of shifting my tent
18:51 to my next camp, knowing when I'm camping,
18:55 so that gets delivered there,
18:57 which now means I'm walking with 15k instead, which is perfect.
19:02 And I'm interested in knowing how you've managed to find the time to do this.
19:07 What does day-to-day life normally look like for you,
19:10 and how have you been able to get this in? It's incredible.
19:14 I have another business, fortunately.
19:18 It means I can do that on the go.
19:22 And this is almost, I thought, how do I live my life doing something that I love?
19:29 So I have approached all of the eco-friendly, basically the apparel that I wear,
19:37 RAB, I approached them, Osprey, that again is sustainable, I approached them,
19:43 and I've asked for their support, so they've sponsored.
19:47 So financially, there you go.
19:50 If you want to do something in life, you can make it happen.
19:53 You just got to think about how do I make this happen,
19:56 whose doors do I knock on and say hello?
20:01 That's partly how I've managed to do it.
20:04 And part of it as well is actually bringing up the idea of hiking,
20:08 and we're talking on Invicta Sport, our dedicated sports programme,
20:12 talking about it as it is, it is a sport,
20:14 and a lot of people perhaps overlook that. Is that what you've experienced?
20:20 I think, yeah, it's often hiking is, you know, people just bumbling around, I suppose.
20:27 And I kind of am bumbling around.
20:29 I'm just doing it huge distances, but for me, it's not really the distance that I'm doing.
20:38 It's the time that I'm spending with nature,
20:41 and that just within eight days, you know, I'm connected with you now,
20:47 with many, many others, so many people.
20:50 Yeah, feeling very grateful.
20:53 And Lindsay, if I was to say to you, right, I'm going to join you for the next 300 days,
20:57 what would your advice be for me to prepare to walk every day for 300 days?
21:04 Good question.
21:06 Firstly, get your feet prepared.
21:11 Vaseline is my feet's best friend.
21:16 Put it in between your toes, round the back of your feet,
21:20 and start with a mile a day, I always say.
21:22 That's how I started, just a mile a day for a month.
21:25 I committed that a few years back, and here I am today, now walking 26 miles a day.
21:32 Make sure that your gear, get the right kit.
21:36 You know, I used to shop from charity shops.
21:39 You can get whatever you need, but make sure it's the right gear.
21:44 Make sure you've got your waterproofs and a great backpack,
21:47 and as long as that's comfortable, you are a warrior for nature.

22:41 Well, I'm here at Kings Mead Pool in Canterbury.
22:43 I'm trying something new today.
22:45 It's not swimming.
22:46 I'm going underneath the water and trying scuba diving.
22:50 Better get out of the work gear and get into something more appropriate for the pool.
22:55 Tonight, you're basically going to be doing your tri-dive,
22:57 so you're going to be taking your first breaths underwater,
22:59 which is obviously a completely alien feeling.
23:02 It's a great feeling.
23:04 So, first of all, you'll be getting into the shallow end,
23:07 and then they'll get the kit onto you.
23:09 They'll get you sort of breathing in the water face first just to start off with,
23:13 just to make sure you're getting used to the breathing.
23:16 And then once you're comfortable there, you will go off for a swim down the pool,
23:20 a couple of lengths, just getting used to the equipment and everything else,
23:23 getting used to your buoyancy.
23:26 After a few practices into the deep, I went.
23:30 It was a weird feeling at first.
23:33 And then comes learning to equalise your ears.
23:37 It's a little like being on a plane.
23:39 But after a while, it's all OK.
23:45 The pool's only around three metres underwater, but that's perfect for training.
23:50 But Kent has many diving hot spots.
23:53 The big thing for us is Dover wreck diving.
23:58 Absolutely thousands of shipwrecks out there from the World Wars, from the 1700s.
24:05 Obviously some are protected, but there are a lot that we can go diving on.
24:09 And that's where I like.
24:10 I like the history of finding the wrecks and doing the research
24:13 to find out what they were, what they were carrying.
24:16 My instructor showed me a few tricks.
24:19 Maybe I need a little more practice.
24:22 But that's what the club is here for.
24:25 I quite like the club aspect that we've got here.
24:28 So that's what made me join.
24:29 I came here to do exactly what you're doing tonight, a tri-dive.
24:33 And then I went on from there, progressed through all my training levels
24:37 and then became an instructor last year as well.
24:40 So I started from where you are and worked my way right up to what I do now for the club.
24:45 The time soon came to resurface.
24:48 Get your balance. Get your balance.
24:51 How was that?
24:52 It was weird not being out to the water.
24:54 I've never quite felt anything like this before, but it's certainly worth a go.

25:44 Next up, Snodland Chess Club played a bold game as 26 members took on
25:48 Chess Grandmaster Sergei Tivokov all at once.
25:52 With no draws, Tivokov beat all of his opponents in just two and a half hours.
25:57 Having such a great time, the club said that the Russian-Dutch Grandmaster
26:01 was able to work out expert level moves in just a matter of seconds.
26:05 And finally, take a look at this scorcher of a goal from Canterbury City player
26:09 Bradley Wallage from right outside the box.
26:12 In what can only be described as being in the right place at the right time,
26:16 the No. 15's first goal for the club made an astonishing mark on the match,
26:20 which City went on to win against K-Sports.
