00:00 European Football's governing body UEFA has announced that a new league format will
00:06 replace the current group stage of the Champions League. For the now 36 teams that will qualify,
00:13 instead of being drawn into groups of four, each will partake in a league where they will
00:17 play eight matches, two more than currently. All eight fixtures will be against different
00:24 teams with half at home and half away. This will be determined by four seeding pots which
00:30 will be used to draw two opponents at a time. Once all eight games have been played, the
00:36 top eight sides will progress to the knockouts, with teams 9-24 in the league going into a
00:43 play-off to determine the final eight teams in the knockouts.
00:48 The Europa League and Europa Conference League will also follow a similar structure, as UEFA
00:54 attempts to make every game matter.
