00:00 If Cobra isn't careful they're gonna see the other end of a crossbow. Here's a
00:04 look at the brand new Super 7 GI Joe Ultimates Scarlet Counter Intelligence.
00:10 [intro]
00:17 [pulling out the box]
00:45 Scarlet's father and three brothers were martial arts instructors. She began her
00:48 training at age nine, was awarded her first black belt at age 15, graduated
00:52 advanced infantry training and Ranger School Special Ed Covert Op School,
00:57 Marine Sniper School, Special Air Service School, Marine Taekwondo Symposium,
01:02 qualified expert all military small arms and infantry weapons. Scarlet is confident
01:07 in resilience. It's remarkable that a person so deadly can still retain a
01:11 sense of humor. While Duke is about to kick the mustard out of this crazy hot
01:15 dog, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the brand new GI Joe Ultimates
01:19 Scarlet stands. The figure is exactly seven inches in height or she's about
01:24 18 centimeters tall. And while she did miss Duke, certainly did. By that much.
01:29 Here's what the figure looks like with the GI Joe Ultimates Wave 1 Duke. I will
01:33 say right away that the paint is definitely better on what we're getting
01:35 here from Scarlet. It's a far cry from what we got with the Wave 2 Ultimate GI
01:40 Joe figures. Both Flint and Lady J suffered from horrendous paint jobs. In
01:44 fact, lacking paint. They seem to rely on just the plastic molding alone. I do hope
01:49 that at some point, now we are going to be getting Duke versions of both Scarlet
01:53 and Lady J with the colors more closely resembling the way that they look in
01:57 Operation Dragonfire. I'm thinking that they're probably going to improve the
02:01 paint on those figures. I might try to track down a Lady J and see if I can
02:05 swap out the head with the one that we get here. Because like I said, the
02:07 original Flint and Lady J. Destro and the blue clad Baroness were also part of
02:11 Wave 2 as well. But they didn't suffer, I feel, at paint as to the extent of what
02:16 we got with both Flint and Lady J. If you are hoping for a high accessory count
02:19 with Scarlet, well you won't be disappointed. Although you may question
02:22 some of the choices that Super 7 made to include the accessories that they did.
02:26 First, like the figure comes in clear with an M16. Where did an M16 come out of?
02:30 I mean, I'm sure there may have been a blink and you miss moment where
02:34 Scarlet maybe was carrying around an M16 in the cartoon. But half the time though,
02:38 the accessories that the Joes were carrying were like the laser rifles. Both
02:42 Duke and Snake Eyes both come included with them. And yet I was surprised that
02:46 Scarlet didn't have one in exchange though for an M16. The accessory can be
02:51 held in her hand, although she has only one gripping hand to accommodate both
02:55 the M16 and the other two crossbows that we'll be looking at for her weapons.
02:58 It just makes no sense to me why they packed this, of all things. Even on the
03:03 back of the packaging, in fact, she's actually advertised as having a tiny
03:06 pistol. Yet no pistol to be found here with the figure. As I already mentioned,
03:09 the figure comes in clear with two crossbows. One I think is supposed to
03:13 look like the old vintage Scarlet accessory as it's quite small. She has a
03:17 much larger, more impressive crossbow that she can also carry around with her
03:20 as well. And both of them again can be used with those with that one hand. The
03:24 only thing unfortunately with the hand is it does all the work of doing it that
03:28 you can't unfortunately swap the hand and put it on this side. She does have
03:31 one gripping hand on this side, but this type of grip doesn't accommodate the
03:35 crossbows. It's better suited for, for example, like holding the walkie-talkie.
03:39 The crossbows, by the way, seem to be molded in matching colors of black. This
03:43 one actually does have a painted scope on the end of it, whereas this one does
03:45 not. And all of these actually have a little groove. Now you can take those
03:49 grooves and she comes included with all these extra arrows. Now I was careful to
03:54 remove the arrows from the plastic tray, and yet though I can't help but notice
03:57 little fracture marks on the end of the plastic. See where the actual point is
04:01 on the arrows? She gets three that look to be identical to one another, and again
04:05 any one of these can just be... there's a little groove right there. You can take
04:09 the end of the feather and slide it in place. There's nothing really to lock it
04:14 in place, although with the scope here in front of it, it sort of helps to keep
04:17 this from falling off. You can also as well take the slightly smaller crossbow
04:21 and it works the exact same way. There's a little groove right there so you can
04:24 just take the cross, take the arrow that is, and just slide it in like that. I
04:28 prefer really of the two to be displaying the figure with a much
04:32 larger crossbow. Above those three extra arrows, the figure also comes included
04:37 with a couple extra ones as well. I think this one is an exploding arrow, judging
04:41 by the fact that if you look on the end of it, it looks to be like there's
04:43 four glowing lights. I think she probably would have used this in a cartoon
04:47 episode. The figure also comes included with what I'm guessing to be a gas arrow,
04:50 which unfortunately though getting it out of the plastic tray was very warped. It is
04:54 still very warped. I'm gonna have to keep that up a little bit I think in hot
04:57 water. And then she also comes included with an arrow that has a tied off string.
05:01 The string is already wrapped around the arrow when you first get it out of the
05:04 packaging. I've yet actually in fact unraveled this. I haven't yet unraveled
05:08 this, but it's just be a case like once you unravel it, it would go pretty far.
05:12 This can also slide onto the crossbows, although it is the hardest one to slide
05:17 on there just because there's so much stuff in the way of things. Just slides
05:21 in place like that and the figure can be displayed with that arrow, that rope
05:25 arrow instead. And again all of these accessories unfortunately because they
05:30 only included the hands that they did, she can only really wield it on one side.
05:33 The other side, as of course using this gripping hand, she does also come
05:38 included with a walkie-talkie, which I just happen off I don't know why I have it off
05:41 off to the side like this. The walkie-talkie been molded nicely here in
05:45 a dark military green. You've got the antenna painted there and in a lighter
05:48 gray. The front face as well as the knobs down below very meticulously painted and
05:52 then again she has a gripping hand for that, but again with the gripping hand it
05:57 only accommodates one side. I think if anything maybe had used the plastic for
06:02 the m16 which again makes no sense to me whatsoever. Maybe instead they should
06:06 have included some extra hands. Other than like the two gripping hands, the
06:10 only other hands that the figure has other than the punching fists right now
06:13 is that she also comes included with a couple of karate chopping hands. All of
06:16 them molded nicely here in a very light caramel brown or caramel beige. Very
06:21 nicely sculpted hands, but again like I don't think I'm ever gonna see myself
06:24 displaying the figure with hands like this or even really for that matter
06:28 hands like this. But if you did want to change out the hands, the hands are
06:32 fairly easy to remove. Unfortunately though I noticed what the problems with
06:36 the hands is that if you look at the peg, see how short they are? When you get them
06:40 eventually back into the forearms, the hands don't ever feel like they sit
06:44 properly flush and they get a little loose. I mean obviously you can see just
06:48 by looking at these. I've pushed it in as far as I think I can get it in there
06:52 and yet there's a very apparent gap space between the hand and the forearm.
06:55 See how wobbly that hand actually is? I wish if anything that they made the peg
07:00 a little bit longer so they would sit a little bit better inside the forearm of
07:04 the figure. And again if you want to have the figure then displayed with the
07:06 crossbow you could do that way as well. The only other thing that the figure
07:10 comes in clue with for accessories other than of course her swappable heads is
07:14 she also comes in clue with a pouch to store all those arrows. You know all
07:17 those arrows we just finished having a look at? Well the arrows store okay
07:21 inside of these. Some of them though don't fit the nicest like for example
07:25 this one here just because again like if you look how wide that is compared to
07:28 the width of the pouch it just isn't gonna fit as well inside the pouch.
07:31 Speaking of the pouch though unfortunately some bad news. I broke
07:35 mine. If you look at the back of there you can see unfortunately some very
07:38 sightly looking glue left behind from me having to glue this in place. Sure enough
07:43 it fit over top of her her body frame the way it was but then try to remove it
07:48 that was the time that unfortunately I broke the strap so I had to glue it back
07:51 in place. I would certainly say though if you are looking to put this on the
07:54 figure it's probably the easiest first to remove the head. Bring the arms up
07:58 just a little bit and then just bring the pouch around her body like this and
08:02 then there's a place to store the extra arrows. Unfortunately though by taking
08:05 the extra I'll take the head and putting back in place. There we go. You'll notice
08:10 that the the ponytail on the back of her hair for example does get pretty close
08:14 in quarters to the to any arrow that you decide that you want to put it in her
08:18 body and the couple of times that I then have put arrows in and I start to move
08:21 the head around and I'm just knocking those arrows back out of the pouch. So
08:26 you may want to decide how you want to display the figure first before you then
08:29 proceed to put the arrows in the pouch for Scarlett. The pouch does look okay. I
08:34 don't recall I don't recall I'm sure there's probably several episodes in
08:38 which Scarlett was carrying this around. I only ever really picture her to be
08:41 carrying around a crossbow not a big sightly pouch like this but at least she
08:45 comes in clear with a place to store extra arrows. Let's just remove the head.
08:48 This was again the part that ended up breaking. I don't know really what I
08:52 was doing differently than what I'm doing right now but somehow it just
08:55 snagged the plastic or it was just too tight and it ripped the back of the
08:59 plastic off so just be careful of that. Popping the defaulted head sculpt back
09:03 in place. The defaulted head is really good for Scarlett. I don't know if I
09:07 would say it lands a perfect likeness to the character in the cartoon but I think
09:10 it's pretty close. The paint can certainly be said is a lot better than
09:13 what we're getting here or what we had gotten with the wave 2 Lady J. Just to
09:17 bring back in Lady J as just a unfortunate reminder of how bad and
09:21 inferior the paint were on those two figures. Flint and Lady J were the ones
09:25 that I really wanted the most and you can imagine how disappointed I was to
09:29 see these figures in the packaging and realizing that they only just relied on
09:32 the plastic molding with only painting things like their eyes over top of it.
09:35 You know Scarlett though to her credit and Duke from what we looked at before
09:39 definitely did the paint a lot nicer. You can see it's more of a matte finish. It
09:43 definitely looks more like it they've painted the plastic rather than just you
09:46 know again relying on the shinier plastic underneath. I can't help but
09:49 think that maybe Scarlett looks a little like Linda Hamilton other than obviously
09:54 she's got red hair. Linda Hamilton would not have had red hair. She does come with
09:57 two alternate heads that look identical to one another. I mean obviously any
10:01 sticklers to detail could see that between the two this one has a little
10:04 more of a smile. This one does not. I could help but also notice the way
10:08 they've parted the bangs on the front. She seems to have notably a more higher
10:12 forehead. It's probably just more of my eyes than anything else. With the heads
10:16 being so close like this I just think that Super 7 could have seen an
10:19 opportunity to in fact maybe include this head sculpt with a molded helmet on
10:24 top of her head. If she's flying around Sky Strikers or even riding around on
10:27 GI Joe motorcycles, safety was always first for Scarlett. Not to include a head
10:32 sculpt that doesn't have a helmet on top of it I think was a missed opportunity.
10:35 The figure also as well comes included with one that has the walkie-talkie
10:39 headband. Duke had it. Also Lady J as well also came in
10:43 with one. So they're keeping things consistent at least. This one also
10:47 benefits from having a mouth open where up to this point all that mouths we've
10:50 looked at have all been closed. This one at least has an open mouth and again if
10:54 you want to just change out the heads it's just a case of popping the head off
10:57 the provided ball joint and then just carefully carefully wiggle this in place.
11:01 Now I was having a harder time because I thought I had heated this well enough
11:05 before hitting record but some of the heads I think have actually started to
11:09 cool. But just because this is not the defaulted head but that basically would
11:12 be what it would look like with the walkie-talkie headpiece instead. Maybe
11:16 what we'll do is we'll just go back to the basics just because again I already
11:19 know that this head sculpt is gonna stay properly in place and again just popping
11:23 it on the ball post. I will say like the ball post is a lot longer than I was
11:27 expecting it to be. I don't know why it's as long as it is. It doesn't
11:31 necessarily grace or any additional articulation and it certainly does make
11:34 things a little bit harder getting the head back in place. Oh one thing I'll
11:38 also say about the head sculpt all three of them have very soft plastic connecting
11:43 this part of the ponytail to the top of her head. Because the plastic is so soft
11:47 and there's very little of it right here be careful not to bend this back and
11:51 forth like what I'm doing right now. Don't do what I'm doing right now just
11:54 because it's softer plastic you may start to fracture the plastic right
11:57 there. You certainly don't want this breaking off just be careful of that. As
12:00 it goes for the rest of the figure's body certainly does look like she would
12:04 have looked from the real Canadian, the real American, not real Canadian, I'm
12:07 Canadian, the real American cartoon GI Joe series. I mean the fact that she does
12:10 have again like that caramel color here making up the majority of her tunic and
12:13 then she's got that little notable section there on her shoulder that's red.
12:17 This is actually textured which was nice to see. Dark gray on the sleeves, dark
12:21 gray underneath here and again she also has the gloves that have the little
12:24 notable stars there on the back. Paint's really good on this figure. I don't have
12:28 again any really issues with when it comes to the actual paint for Scarlet. My
12:32 issues really are more so just for what they chose for accessories and also for
12:36 the fact that the hands just don't seem to stay properly in place. Again just for
12:40 the amount of pressure I'm putting against this, these hands just don't ever
12:44 really feel like they're staying in place. Maybe it's a little better right
12:47 now but even just to rotate the hands around you'll see that it develops
12:50 looseness really fast, really really fast. I just wish that the pegs were a little
12:53 bit longer on the hands. Now for the figure's articulation we'll start back
12:57 obviously with her head sculpt. Being that it is on a ball post, the head does
13:00 easily rotate all the way around. It does look down, it does look up. I know you may
13:05 have missed it. No, we'll go back it. Okay we'll go back. Down and up. That's as far
13:10 as it's gonna go and also rocks back and forth as well. Upper torso is gonna be on
13:13 a ball joint. The arms do hinge out comfortably at 90 degrees. You take those
13:18 arms and rotate them all the way around. Some issues that people have had with
13:22 some of the GI Joe Ultimate figures have been that they've been loose out of the
13:25 packaging. So far from what I've least seen from Scarlet, she isn't loose in the
13:29 shoulders. That's good. She isn't certainly loose in the elbows. Hands, we've
13:33 already discussed the problems with the hands. Upper torso, again not so much of an
13:37 issue. She has it also this section right here is on a ball joint there too. If
13:40 anything I could say maybe the legs are starting to develop a little bit of
13:43 looseness. Not to the point where you could get a bit of a dinner bell. Dinner
13:46 bell basically just means you can you know dangle it back and forth like this
13:50 and the legs will wiggle. Not the case. Seems like the legs are, while being
13:54 loose, they're not overly loose yet. If anything maybe like the boots swivel is
13:59 a little on the looser side. The hinge on the knee maybe is already starting to
14:02 develop a little bit of a looseness. You can kind of see by the way I'm rocking
14:05 this, rocking this back and forth. This should not be the case for a figure that
14:08 you only have in the packaging. I've only had Scarlet out of the pack for probably
14:12 like an hour and a half. It shouldn't be the case right away.
14:14 Ankle pivot back and forth also as well. The figure does have pegs on the
14:18 undersides of her feet. Even though none of the Super 7 GI Joe Ultimates or
14:21 really any of the Super 7 Ultimates as a whole have come included with display
14:25 stands, you could at least use a display stand from another figure company. Still
14:29 though to call these Ultimates, you really wish that they could have
14:32 included a display stand. One of which that could have for example said GI Joe
14:36 or something on the front of it. I don't know. I don't know. What I do know though
14:39 is that I'm happy with how Scarlet turned out. She looks closer. Not knocking
14:43 over Duke in the process. She certainly looks a lot closer to Duke than she does
14:47 Lady J. And that's a good thing. For a while sort of Duke was the benchmark for
14:52 what GI Joe Ultimates should look like and it wasn't necessarily the case when
14:55 we got ourselves the GI Joe Ultimates Wave 2. It pained me even just the idea
14:59 of bringing out Lady J. I wasn't gonna do that for Flint. Flint really was
15:03 underwhelming for me. I'm glad that she out she takes more of a page again from
15:07 the Wave 1 GI Joe Ultimates and less a page from the Wave 2 GI Joe Ultimates. I
15:12 hope though it's a trend that's going to continue to be the case with the Super
15:15 7 future releases. Jumping now over to the turntable I've got Scarlet displayed
15:20 with two things that won't be on the figure when I put her on the collection
15:22 shelf. One being the M16. Whose idea at Super 7 was it to give Scarlet an M16?
15:28 When half the time she's only really carrying around the GI Joe laser rifle
15:32 with her. I mean most of the GI Joes are usually having those in the original
15:35 Real American cartoon episodes. Or if anything on the back of the packaging
15:39 she's even blatantly advertised with a pistol. And yet neither one of those get
15:43 packed along with the figure. She does get at least two crossbows so that's
15:47 something. One slightly a smaller one that I think is supposed to replicate
15:50 the original vintage Scarlet accessory. And then one that's slightly larger. Both
15:55 of them at least can accommodate arrows. And she has actually quite a lot of
15:58 arrows to come included with her. As well as at least a pouch to store those when
16:02 you're not having it displayed with the figure. Just be careful though of the
16:05 pouch as I'd certainly ripped the strap trying to fit it over top of her frame.
16:10 Just be really careful with that. And of course the figure also comes included
16:13 with three interchangeable head sculpts. I'm not gonna knock the fact the figure
16:16 comes included with a walkie-talkie headband. As Lady J had one. I think also Duke had
16:20 one as well. It works fine for the character of Scarlet. I just don't
16:24 understand still why Super 7 chose to waste the plastic to give her two
16:27 alternate head sculpts when they look so close to one another. I mean anyone
16:31 meticulously looking at the face. You don't even have to be all that meticulous
16:34 either. You could tell right away that the faces are different from one another.
16:37 But not enough to really justify why you would give the figure two of those
16:41 similar heads. When in fact they could probably have just used the plastic and
16:44 molded a head sculpt that had a helmet over top of her head. Scarlet a lot of
16:48 times in the episodes she was being safe all the time. Was carrying around, usually
16:52 wearing around a helmet when she was riding around on GI Joe motorcycles or
16:55 flying around in a Sky Striker. Which I was having a hard time to say in the
16:59 review. All in all though a nice-looking figure. Questioning though some of the
17:03 accessories that they chose to include with her. She at least is a nice-looking
17:06 GI Joe. And she at least resurges my interest in collecting this line. Even if
17:11 the line was still going to kind of go in the direction of being garbage. Not
17:14 that it was going in the direction of being garbage. But with the second wave
17:18 and having the dismal paint jobs that they did for one of my all-time favorite
17:22 GI Joe characters Flint and Lady J. I don't know my hopes were pretty low. At
17:27 least with Scarlet and seeing what she gave us for generally a good paint job
17:31 figure. I hope that that's gonna be something again that's gonna be
17:34 continued with the rest of the GI Joe's. From not only just this wave but the
17:37 future waves as well. Now a lot of these are starting to show up on Entertainment
17:41 Earth. I did order this one at the same time of ordering Zartan. And I think it
17:45 was Storm Shadow. No Storm Shadow is available right now in stock. There was
17:49 Zartan and there was another character that I did end up ordering. Oh it was
17:53 Baroness. That's right. Speaking of Baroness who was part of wave 3. We
17:57 finally got a black clad Baroness. I ordered her, Zartan and Scarlet.
18:01 Unfortunately those Zartan and Baroness were back ordered or pushed back at
18:06 least to a release date of March. So I ended up only getting Scarlet. I will
18:10 still go back because they have a couple of other ones on their site that I'm
18:13 really interested to still get. But have you guys been collecting any of the GI
18:15 Joe ultimate figures? Have you been a little bit disappointed like I have
18:19 been disappointed with the second wave of GI Joe figures? And maybe have now
18:22 seen Scarlet? Kind of had a bit of a resurgence for your interest in this
18:26 line. Let me know what you guys think of these down below in the comment section.
18:29 Also as well if you guys did enjoy this video I want to throw it a like. If you
18:32 guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and you certainly do want to
18:35 stick around for more, we will eventually be looking at the rest of the GI Joe
18:38 this wave of GI Joe figures. So of course making sure you're coming back on a
18:41 regular basis. And of course in the meantime if you guys want to check out
18:44 my earlier reviews of other things from Super 7 that includes Silverhawks,
18:48 Thundercats, GI Joe, Red and State Beast, Simpsons. It's all there. Oh some Disney
18:52 stuff to throw in there as well. Popping up at the very end of this video will be
18:55 a playlist of all the things I've covered off from Super 7 with many more
18:59 things to come your way. As always guys thanks for watching. See you guys next
19:03 time.
