00:00 NECA doesn't need a Necronomicon to resurrect a figure.
00:03 Here's a look at the NECA toys Evil Dead 2, Dead by Dawn, the 2022 reissue Ash Williams.
00:09 After a relaxing cabin vacation doesn't go as planned, Ash is left with three dead friends,
00:35 an undead girlfriend, and an angry evil spirit on the loose.
00:39 As nightfall approaches, Ash must prepare again to battle the legions of the damned
00:42 if he wants to make it to dawn.
00:45 Resurrecting the undead, courtesy of an audio reel, before of course we get a closer look
00:48 at the 2022 Evil Dead 2 Ash Williams, grabbing of course the tape measure, tells us that
00:53 the figure stands at about six and a half inches in height, or the figure is about sixteen
00:57 and a half centimeters tall.
00:59 This body of Ash isn't anything new, in fact we did get this body from before, just
01:04 bringing in one right now, this one happens to be from 2016, you may be looking at that
01:07 and thinking, well how would you even know that's from 2016, the figure is loose.
01:11 You'll always also know by looking at the palms of their feet, I don't know if you
01:14 can actually see that or not, if I hold it up to the lamplight, it actually says 2016
01:18 right there.
01:19 The bodies are going to be exactly the same.
01:21 They have tweaked of course the color scheme, the brighter skin tone is notably different
01:24 on this Ash, but there's also one other thing that you may have already noticed that's
01:28 different on this Ash that wasn't on the earlier releases.
01:31 What are you looking at by the way?
01:33 Oh, I see it too.
01:37 All the rest of the audience is wondering what exactly we're looking at.
01:39 Let's bring in a couple of other Ashes here.
01:41 Here's what the figure looks like.
01:42 Now this was the 2017 two-pack Evil Dead 2, this was the Kiss Your Nerves Goodbye that
01:48 came packed along with Deadite Ed Getley.
01:51 Obviously different bodies completely all together.
01:53 And here's also what the figure looks like with not Evil Dead 2 Ash, but more Evil Dead
01:58 1 Ash, the Ultimate Ash Williams, we've also looked at here on this channel.
02:01 Not really summoning up much new in the way of accessories with this figure, as many of
02:04 the accessories that we'll have a look at are pretty much ones that if you already have
02:07 been collecting the Evil Dead Ash figures, you'll probably recognize right away.
02:11 Like for example, probably one of the smallest Necronomicon Ex Mortis loosely translated
02:15 to be the Book of the Dead that we've ever gotten.
02:18 We have gotten this one before, I could have easily gone back to the Dark Cellar, I really
02:22 don't like to go down to the Cellar because I always feel like I'm hearing noises down
02:25 there.
02:26 But I probably could have easily pulled out the old Necronomicon so you can see the differences
02:29 that they are exactly the same.
02:31 Some of the Necronomicons though have been a little bit more impressive than this one.
02:34 This is just really tiny.
02:36 The actual pages are nicely painted, as well as the sculpting on the back and the front
02:40 of the book.
02:41 Tiny little teeth down below there as well.
02:43 Just don't lose this, this would be the last book you'd ever really want to lose.
02:47 Speaking of things that are, well speaking of the books, I guess one thing we can also
02:51 look at as well is the real tape recorder is also the same one that we've also gotten
02:55 in with earlier release of Ash figures.
02:59 It does have some nice paint on the bottom of it, of course the little feet that keep
03:01 it upright.
03:02 I would love to get myself a little tiny wooden table and have all of these accessories scattered
03:06 across this.
03:07 It's the one thing that really NECA is missing their mark on when it comes to these.
03:10 Sure, it's nice to have all these things get packed with their figures, but if you
03:13 really don't have anything to actually put them on top of, let's see if I can find
03:17 myself a little wooden table.
03:19 None of the actual reels do move here on the tape recorder, but again you've got the
03:22 little switches and the knobs and dials.
03:25 Very nicely detailed little representation of the thing that starts all the trouble.
03:28 I'm going to put it off to the side, let's hope we don't start any trouble.
03:32 Figure also comes included with a shotgun.
03:34 Yes, it's the same shotgun that we've gotten before.
03:37 Painted nicely there is the silver on the side, and then of course you've got the
03:39 brown back stock there.
03:41 It's not yet cut off.
03:43 He doesn't even have the means to cut anything off yet because this figure doesn't actually
03:45 come included with a chainsaw.
03:47 We have gotten other Ash figures that have come with chainsaws, this one just happens
03:51 not to be one of those.
03:52 The figure also comes included with quite an off-colored axe.
03:55 The actual head of the axe is a very shiny black plastic, but it does have sort of a
04:00 sickly looking green that's been splattered across it.
04:03 It looks like Ash has already been busy either cutting off his own hands or cutting off the
04:06 hands and the rest of the body parts of his girlfriend.
04:10 Really off-colored axe, and I would have to remember if the original axe looked like this.
04:14 I don't think it did.
04:15 Of course, if you did, you still have that axe.
04:17 Let me know down below in the comment section.
04:19 One thing I really like is that there's a little, like, I don't know if it's a
04:22 fingerprint of slime on the handle of the section of the axe.
04:26 Might be where Ash was probably holding it as he was hacking away at bodies.
04:32 Speaking of hacking away at bodies, how's that for a horrible segue?
04:35 We have the decapitated head of his girlfriend, Linda.
04:38 We have gotten this before.
04:40 I mean, the coloring on this one I think is a little bit nicer.
04:42 I mean, from what I'm remembering at least, you've got the blood and what's left of
04:46 the insides of the dead eye all splattered across the front of her face.
04:50 Dead eyes, the deadest of eyes.
04:52 A nicely sculpted head sculpt.
04:53 And again, I just don't really have a place to put any of these things.
04:57 Tabletop.
04:58 We need ourselves a little tiny table.
04:59 Nice little detailed version of Linda's decapitated head.
05:01 Let's move it off to the side.
05:02 We'll be also looking at a couple of other decapitated things.
05:05 One of the other things that the figure comes in clue with, not necessarily decapitated
05:09 in the plan that...
05:10 I mean, we already have the cut off hand, but there's also this hand that for all
05:13 intents and purposes is really supposed to swap out with this arm here.
05:18 The problem with it though is that the figure also comes in clue with the forearm.
05:21 Now this forearm does have just a regular relaxed hand, but you can already see the
05:25 evil is getting possessed into it.
05:27 Uh-oh.
05:28 Uh-oh.
05:29 I think somebody's going to have to cut that off pretty soon.
05:31 Nails are now starting to grow a little bit longer.
05:34 That's one of the telltale signs.
05:36 If ever I see somebody that has really long nails, really unsightly nails, I always think,
05:40 "Are they turning into a deadite?"
05:41 Good thing I don't have an ax.
05:44 Now this particular arm, you can see that still has it, I'm surprised, is flaking off
05:49 paint like nobody's business.
05:50 You can see on the end of it, the paint was really on the end of the peg.
05:54 And I've removed this hand a couple of this forearm a couple of times, thinking I've done
05:57 away with all of the paint, but you can see like I've still got it sticking to my hand.
06:03 It's going to come off a couple of times if you happen to pick up this figure for yourself.
06:06 The paint is nicely done.
06:07 I just wish that more of it would stay on the actual plastic arm than actually getting
06:11 on my own fingers.
06:12 Now you can swap it out with the existing hand that he has in the forearm that he has
06:16 right now.
06:17 It's just a case of unpegging it from the provided peg.
06:19 Now obviously this one here, I mean, if you were to look at the figure as it is right
06:23 now, bringing back in that original ash, at least the one from 2016, has the exact same
06:28 stump on the end of it.
06:30 So again, there's nothing really different between the two figures that way.
06:32 The benefit at least of having multiples of these is that with the things that at least
06:36 NECA packs with them, you can decide for yourself to customize these and change out some of
06:40 the things if you really wanted to.
06:42 The thing I did want to tell you though about this hand or this arm is the hand that's on
06:45 the end of it.
06:46 I'm just going to detach this hand.
06:49 Probably not a good idea considering it's possessed.
06:50 I'm just going to put it off to the side, but I'm going to keep my eye on it.
06:53 I did want to say though that the hand that it comes included with, for all intents and
06:56 purposes, I'm guessing it's supposed to attach onto the end peg here, but it does not.
07:01 Every time I think I'm putting enough pressure against it, it doesn't stay properly in place.
07:06 It always falls off way too frequently.
07:10 So what I'll do is I'll just reluctantly put back on the possessed hand.
07:14 If you did want to change out this hand, by the way, you're going to take the ash as he
07:17 is right now, and he's already done the deed of cutting off the end of his hand that's
07:23 possessed.
07:24 But if you didn't want to go back to the beginning, just undetach that, just pop that right off,
07:28 and then you just take the new forearm that comes included with this figure and just pop
07:31 it back in place.
07:32 Again, I don't know where all this paint's coming from.
07:34 I feel like I've already gotten off everything I could get from the end of that peg, and
07:38 yet I still keep getting all this paint all over my hands.
07:41 But this is what the regular hand and regular arm would look like.
07:44 The only difference again is the fact that the hand is completely gone and it's just
07:47 wrapped it up before he puts on the end chainsaw.
07:50 Kind of wish the figure could come included with the chainsaw, but again, we already have
07:53 enough ash figures that already have that.
07:55 The last thing that the figure comes included with short of his interchangeable dead eye
07:58 head is that he also comes with the already cut off possessed hand.
08:04 Really nice molding here.
08:05 Still long fingernails.
08:06 That's the telltale sign that somebody's possessed.
08:08 You can see the inside of the hand just looks gnarly.
08:11 The discoloration of the brown and all the other off sickly colors of yellow really make
08:16 this look like a sick looking hand.
08:18 And again, you can see like the part, that's the exit.
08:21 That's where the hand has left the remaining of his forearm and just sort of crawling around.
08:25 I guess you could kind of just put it on the sides of his shoulder if you wanted to.
08:28 Speaking of also things that are possessed, why we are in the topic of possessed things,
08:32 the figure also comes included with his possessed head sculpt.
08:36 Now again, if you wanted to, because you already have a couple, I'm just making the assumption
08:40 that you probably have a couple of these already in your collection.
08:43 You can use this head sculpt with a different body or again, you can also use it with this
08:47 body as well.
08:49 Before we start swapping anything around and making him a deadite, I did though want to
08:52 quickly show you guys with the detail and looks to the face.
08:55 He has the slightly a little more elongated jaw.
08:57 Really nice coloring.
08:58 I love the way they've sunken in the eyes.
09:00 It looks very much like it did from Evil Dead 2.
09:03 Now the head sculpt, I don't want to rush things along because this is a big talking
09:07 point when it comes to this particular reissue.
09:09 I don't know where along the timeline this happened, but somewhere between the release
09:14 of this guy in 2016 and the release of this guy in 2022, somebody at NECA came up with
09:20 the idea of shifting Ash's eyes.
09:23 So instead of looking straight forward, they're actually off to the side.
09:28 You'll see what I mean as I pick the figure up right now.
09:30 Instead of his eyes looking straight forward like the 2016 release would have been, again,
09:35 the same body, instead of having the eyes looking straight forward, the eyes are actually
09:39 lingering off to the side.
09:43 Now initially getting this figure because I bought this guy online and it was more so
09:47 just the idea that I wanted to get an updated version.
09:49 I've done that recently.
09:50 I mean, picking up a lot of reissue figures, just the idea I wanted the colors to be a
09:54 little bit brighter and a lot of times too, like the figure just comes across a little
09:57 bit better.
09:58 Not always the case, but notably though, when I got this one ordered online, I had no idea
10:02 that the eye was going to be shifting to the side like this.
10:05 The packaging gives no indication at all.
10:07 In fact, the images shown on the back of the packaging shows still the eyes looking straight
10:11 forward.
10:12 So at some point they decided they wanted to have the eyes looking off to the side.
10:16 Initially thinking, I don't like the look of that.
10:18 The longer though that I've had the chance to look at the figure and he's been looking
10:21 off over here, the more I'm liking the idea that the eyes are a little off to the side
10:25 like this.
10:26 Because again, like we've already gotten enough of these Ashes that are looking forward like
10:30 this.
10:31 I find by having the eyes off to the side like this, it brings a little more personality
10:35 to the figure's face.
10:36 I mean, not only that, but the coloring of his face is a lot nicer of a natural skin
10:40 color.
10:41 Whereas again, like if you look at the two, there's definitely a more discoloration or
10:45 paler complexion on this version of Ash.
10:47 So definitely the color is a lot nicer here in the newer release.
10:50 The shirts are very similar in color.
10:52 I keep bringing this back.
10:53 The colors are very similar in color.
10:55 The shirts are very similar in color.
10:57 Other than the fact that you will notice that not only is there some additional slime on
11:00 the tops of his shoulders, but this one also has blood, whereas this one didn't have it
11:03 before.
11:04 The pants are going to be exactly the same, right down to the idea, in fact, actually
11:07 that they've got the little rip on the one side leg there.
11:10 But I mean, other than that, I mean, to look at the two, I mean, obviously you're going
11:13 to be looking at them now and saying, "Well, wait a minute.
11:14 This one does have this severed stump.
11:15 Where were you like five minutes ago?"
11:17 Other than that, it's the exact same figure.
11:19 But you know, not liking it initially, I'm really warming up to the idea.
11:23 I don't want this on every figure, but to give us an occasional Ash where his pupils
11:27 are pointing this way, I kind of like it.
11:30 Didn't like it before.
11:31 The longer I have this figure though now in hand, the more I'm really digging the idea
11:35 of him looking this way.
11:37 If you didn't want to stop him looking this way, we can go ahead and just detach the head
11:41 from the peg, pop on the Deadeye head sculpt.
11:44 There we go.
11:46 And again, like now you've got the Deadeye head.
11:47 The only thing I would say about the Deadeye head is that the colors aren't quite jiving
11:51 with the lower end of his neck.
11:52 I mean, obviously it's missing some of the blood.
11:54 It doesn't quite have the same coloring as the rest of the Deadeye skin.
11:58 But again, like the fact that we have like much better paint, I feel now in these figures,
12:01 let's get that all the way on there.
12:03 The fact that we have much better paint, I feel it's still all the more reason if you
12:06 already still have that original figure, it's still worth, I feel the upgrade, especially
12:11 considering that this one now has a little bit of a cosmetic change to his pupil.
12:15 Not this one.
12:16 This one's missing his pupils, but on the other head sculpt.
12:18 Now for the articulation, this guy's going to have the exact same as the other one.
12:21 So if you already have any one of those Ashes, the continuation of posability is going to
12:26 remain the same.
12:27 The head's going to be on a ball joint.
12:28 So yeah, it rotates all the way around.
12:29 It looks up and down and back and forth, but I want to make sure I just got the head completely
12:33 on there.
12:34 The upper torso is still once again going to be on a ball joint too.
12:36 So that rotates all the way around.
12:38 Shoulders do come out at 90 degrees.
12:40 You can take those arms and rotate them all the way around, both sides, both sides.
12:44 Now because again, like these are older figures, he only has a single hinge on his elbow.
12:47 To though be fair, the original Evil Dead, single, first Evil Dead, Ash Williams, the
12:52 recent, the most recent one I think that we've gotten also has only had a single hinge in
12:56 the elbow.
12:57 So it's been upgraded in that department.
12:59 Arm though rotates back and forth.
13:00 Hands rotate also all the way around.
13:02 The legs split the same way as the original one, only about that far.
13:05 You can take the legs and move forward.
13:06 You can move them back.
13:07 Swivel at the top of the thigh, single hinge only in the lower leg.
13:11 But again, you can rotate that lower leg back and forth, ankle pivot back and forth, and
13:15 you can rock it back and forth this way as well.
13:17 Yeah, I mean, you know, again, it's, it's a strange thing because like picking this
13:21 figure up online, you never really know what you're really going to be getting.
13:25 I mean, I always really say, if you get the chance to try to find these in the wild, find
13:28 them in the wild because then at least if you're, if you're one of those collectors
13:32 where paint is always a problem, you're looking at it like, oh, I don't know, that little
13:35 smudge that he has on the end of his chin.
13:37 That's a deal breaker for me.
13:39 If you're one of those kinds of collectors, I would always really encourage, try to find
13:42 these guys in the wild because then you can go, go through what, you know, what inventory
13:46 that store happens to have and pick out the one that you think is perfect for your collection.
13:50 Ordering it online again, you never really know.
13:52 You could have paint problems or in a case like me, you can have a surprise because again,
13:57 my only intent was really to get just an upgrade to this one.
14:00 And what I did end up ultimately getting was not only an upgrade on the paint, but a very
14:04 surprising reveal when it comes to his eyes.
14:07 Now again, I don't know if earlier releases, because again, like even the 2022 reissue,
14:12 I mean, we're still talking about a figure that's two years old.
14:14 I don't know where along from 2016 to 2022, the decision was made to make side, side slanting
14:21 eyes.
14:22 The end result though, is a very interesting looking ash.
14:25 If you haven't had the chance to pick up an ash or you already have say this one that
14:28 we've already had a look at from the 2016 or any one of the subsequent reissues that
14:32 we've gotten over the years, don't look, overlook the idea of getting this one, especially if
14:36 you want one that looks a little bit different from the rest.
14:39 I don't know if it was maybe just a playing real down in the dark cellar of my house that
14:43 compelled me to want to pick up a new ash because the other ash that I had was fine.
14:47 It wasn't necessarily a case that the figure had limited articulation because you're getting
14:50 the same level of posability with this one.
14:53 It's just an upgrade in paint.
14:54 I will say though, it is an upgrade in paint.
14:56 It is noticeably better than the one that we got from 2016.
14:59 There's only just a separation of really six years, but in six years, the paint has definitely
15:03 been improved.
15:05 But what again, a surprise it was to get this guy out of the packaging.
15:08 In fact, usually what I'll do is when this always arrives at my doorstep, not usually,
15:12 that's always the case.
15:13 Sometimes they go to my post office, but either way, when I opened up the box and I took this
15:16 out because they have the benefit of the front flap, I was opening up usually the front
15:19 flap because I can't wait to see the reveal.
15:22 And when I looked inside, I had to second guess myself, wait, is he looking off to the
15:26 side?
15:27 I wasn't expecting that at all.
15:29 And yet while I didn't like it initially, in fact, I was well willing to really go into
15:34 this review and say like, why would they have decided to make his eyes side shifted like
15:38 that?
15:39 The longer that I have now this figure in my collection, I think it adds to the personality
15:43 and the craziness that Bruce Campbell brought to the role.
15:46 I wouldn't necessarily encourage that if you already have an Ash Williams.
15:48 I mean, I am within the collection space that I'm always going back to try to pick up a
15:53 new reissue with always the hope in mind I'm going to get a better paint job or something
15:57 that is standing out on that figure that wasn't the case with the figures before.
16:01 If you already are happy with this particular mold of Ash, you may not want to decide to
16:05 jump ship and move over to something new if you already have a figure that was doing the
16:09 job fine in the first place.
16:10 But I will say though, one thing that's different about this one might be the one thing that
16:14 pulls you in the direction of wanting to pick this up.
16:16 If you were sort of on the fence on the idea of upgrading in the first place, you know,
16:20 again, for six years, a difference of 2016 to 2022, what a difference those gaps of six
16:26 years makes.
16:27 What do you guys think of the figure?
16:28 Let me know down below in the comment section.
16:29 I guess the bigger question would be to ask is, do you guys like the idea that his eyes
16:32 looking off to the side?
16:34 I hope again, you know, it's probably not a trend that's going to continue with everything,
16:37 but I think it adds to the particular character of Bruce Campbell.
16:40 And I think it makes the figure more interesting.
16:43 But is that enough for you guys are worth picking this guy up?
16:46 Let me know down below in the comment section, what you guys think of them.
16:48 Also Hey as well, if you guys enjoy, enjoyed this video, why not throw it a like, if you
16:51 guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and you're on board to see some more neck
16:54 reviews, well, more are definitely going to be coming your way.
