Strong to severe thunderstorms will return to the Lone Star State on March 7, forecasters say.
Transcript
00:00 Let's take a look at what else is happening weather-wise across the country.
00:03 And we're going to send it over to Jeff Cornish for tonight's Big Three.
00:06 Well, Melissa, we have some big changes as we look at the Big Three here.
00:12 We're going to kick off in the south-central U.S. after dealing with some big headlines tied to wildfire activity.
00:18 The fires are fading.
00:19 Crews are gaining the upper hand on this into the panhandle, but we're going to get ready for some storms to return.
00:24 Tonight, most of us are fairly quiet.
00:26 You do see a thunderstorm in our forecast here for the New Orleans metro overnight tonight.
00:31 And we're going to see a much more widespread round of showers and thunderstorms return as this system,
00:35 which has some pretty good wind energy associated with this, digs into the southern plains.
00:39 So we are looking at the return of strong to severe thunderstorms,
00:42 primarily east of the area where we saw the bulk of the fires in the panhandles.
00:46 We're looking at areas from around Enid and Woodward, Oklahoma, all the way down to Dallas,
00:50 down I-35 to near Austin and San Antonio.
00:53 And then by Thursday night, this moves east into areas around Tyler, Longview, and possibly into Shreveport.
00:59 Here you can see a good deal of thunderstorms out there.
01:01 Pressing pause at 4 p.m.
01:03 We'll see some widespread showers from Dallas up into the area around Fort Smith, Arkansas.
01:07 But some of these storms farther west are actually a bit more concerning.
01:11 They may cover less ground, but they will be fairly intense with wind and hail that concerns.
01:16 And an isolated tornado is possible, too.
01:18 And then Friday, that moves east here through much of the lower Mississippi Valley.
