00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is facing the Filipino community in Melbourne, Australia.
00:06 But before that, the President has a lot of activities.
00:10 Let's find out in the story of Allan Francisco.
00:13 Live, Allan.
00:14 It's 9 o'clock in the evening here in Melbourne, Australia
00:21 while it's 6 o'clock in the evening in the Philippines
00:25 before the event ends, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s Filipino Community Event.
00:31 In his speech, President Marcos Jr. praised the Filipinos abroad,
00:38 particularly here in Australia,
00:40 because of their efforts to give a better future to their family in the Philippines.
00:45 All that they do in the government is not only successful,
00:49 but also because of the good views of the Filipinos.
00:55 My first priority is to connect with you, my fellow Filipinos.
01:01 My presence in Australia will only be meaningful
01:08 if I am given the opportunity to meet with you, to spend time with you,
01:13 our fellow Filipinos.
01:15 Some of you have come all the way from regional Victoria,
01:18 New South Wales, regional Victoria,
01:22 New South Wales, Queensland.
01:27 I always say that I am thankful to the Filipinos
01:33 who live in different countries, to you who are here in Australia,
01:37 because the Philippines became famous because of you.
01:42 The Philippines became famous because of the so-called "diaspora,"
01:50 the travel of our fellow Filipinos to different places.
01:54 The Filipino people became known, the Filipino culture, the Filipino way of life.
02:00 And that is why you love your friends here in Australia,
02:09 and you love the Filipinos because of that.
02:16 President Marcos said that the Filipino heritage should be honored
02:20 and that he will also support the new Philippines campaign.
02:24 Meanwhile, President Marcos held various events today.
02:28 For example, the Philippine Business Forum,
02:31 where Php 86 billion of investments from more than 10 business deals
02:36 were made in the Philippines and Australia in the event.
02:39 According to DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual,
02:42 these will help in the development of the country's economy.
02:45 These meetings are included in the House of Initiatives,
02:49 Battery Manufacturing, Renewable Energy, Recycling Technology, and many more.
02:54 Before this event, President Marcos held a bilateral meeting
02:58 with the Prime Minister of Cambodia to strengthen the rice trade.
03:02 They also discussed double taxation and the establishment of ease of doing business,
03:07 the expansion of flight connections for tourism destinations,
03:11 and the strengthening of defense.
03:14 Meanwhile, the President also held a speaking engagement at the Lowy Institute.
03:19 President Marcos was again invited by the Philippines Government.
03:23 This was also the origin of the issue of the West Philippine Sea.
03:26 At the same time, centuries of friendship and kinship bind the Filipino and Chinese people.
03:35 We pursue with the People's Republic of China,
03:38 comprehensive strategic cooperation founded on mutual respect and mutual benefit.
03:45 Our independent foreign policy compels us to cooperate with them on matters where our interests align,
03:52 to respectfully disagree on areas where our views differ,
03:58 and to push back when our sworn principles, such as our sovereignty,
04:03 our sovereign rights, and our jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea,
04:07 are questioned or ignored.
04:10 In a simple way, according to President Marcos,
04:14 the Philippines' assistance to China is still a diplomatic means.
04:18 Despite the fact that the Executive Board of the Philippines
04:22 is committed to supporting and defending any Constitution that is being passed.
04:27 Tomorrow, President Marcos will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
04:35 Tomorrow, he will officially welcome the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit.
04:42 I will bring more details tomorrow.
04:46 Thank you very much, Alan Francisco, live from Australia.
04:51 That's Australia.
