00:00 China's ships have sailed in the West Philippine Sea
00:04 under the monitoring of the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative.
00:07 There are also sightings of survey ships of China near the Philippine Rhize.
00:13 We have first the news from Mackie Pulido.
00:15 Last September, three survey ships of China near the Philippine Rhize,
00:23 an underwater plateau in the northeastern seaboard of the Philippines,
00:27 were in the lobby of our Exclusive Economic Zone or EEZ
00:30 and the rich were left with oil, gas and other marine resources.
00:34 On February 26, the former US Air Force official, Ray Powell,
00:39 posted that there are two ships of China that have seen loitering or were near the area.
00:45 In the monitoring of the Philippine Navy,
00:47 two research survey vessels from Guangzhou, China and Pacific Ocean were seen.
00:52 If we will track the course of both survey ships coming from the port of origin to the Pacific,
00:59 that is more or less the vicinity they would be after two or three days of travel.
01:03 In transit, or the survey ships of China just passed by,
01:07 now the two survey ships are outside the EEZ of the Philippines.
01:11 Passing through the Exclusive Economic Zone or a coastal state is allowed under UNGLOS.
01:18 Doing research or other activities will help to inform the coastal state
01:23 and in some cases get the consent of the coastal state.
01:26 In the other side of the country, in the West Philippine Sea,
01:31 aside from the South Sea Fleet of China and China Coast Guard,
01:34 there are more ships of the Chinese maritime militia.
01:37 In the monitoring of the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative,
01:41 the average number of militia vessels seen in different places in the West Philippine Sea every day of 2023 is 195.
01:49 More than the previous years.
01:52 The Philippine Navy said that these are private fishing vessels that were given a permit by China
01:57 to fish inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
02:00 But the order is received from the Chinese military.
02:04 I would call them a clear and present challenge, not a danger.
02:08 This is part of what we are navigating.
02:11 We have to create a new environment now.
02:14 There is no new statement from China that they have previously minimized their sovereignty in the territories of the West Philippine Sea.
02:20 This is the first news. Mackie Pulido for GMA Integrated News.
