00:00 Also covering this story for us today is Andrew Hillier. He's in Jerusalem and I spoke to him earlier on.
00:05 It's very hard to verify information coming out of the Gaza Strip as you know, there are no international observers, very few
00:14 journalists on the ground. Hamas is saying 104 people were killed. The Al-Shifa Hospital
00:20 nearby where that incident took place says 50 people were killed at least. Now it happened this morning
00:27 just west of Gaza City after the arrival of an aid convoy. Now the Israeli army saying that a group of
00:34 Palestinians rushed towards that aid convoy to get their hands on much-needed
00:38 humanitarian aid. They say that people surrounded the aid trucks. There was a crush, people were injured.
00:44 Then the IDF is saying that a group of threatening individuals approached soldiers and they responded by
00:51 opening fire aiming at people's legs. They have opened an investigation
00:56 but what the IDF is saying at this stage is that they believe the majority of people were killed when they were either crushed or
01:04 trampled on. Hamas is saying they died after they were targeted by the IDF.
01:09 You know and this all of course coming on top of another grim milestone today. More than 30,000
01:16 Palestinians killed, the majority of them women and children since October.
01:20 That's according to Hamas. The humanitarian situation in northern Gaza and Gaza, across Gaza as well can only be described as simply
01:28 catastrophic. Just yesterday
01:30 just over 30 aid trucks made it to the northern part of the territory providing Palestinians with much-needed
01:36 relief. The UN says that before this week
01:39 they hadn't been able to get a major aid delivery to the north of the territory for at least a
01:44 month now. Aid convoys have been targeted by gangs. The food has been
01:49 sold on the black market.
01:51 Otherwise the the convoys have been targeted by people who are simply starving and desperate to get their hands on food.
01:57 You know there has in the meantime been attempts to get aid to people with the air drops
02:03 but it simply isn't enough to meet the needs of those people. The only real way to do that efficiently is over land.
02:10 But of course in a territory where law and order has simply broken down that greatly complicates the work of the UN and aid agencies.
