00:28 But regardless of the minor misquote, movie lovers everywhere know that when they hear
00:32 the former line, we're talking about 1995 space docudrama Apollo 13.
00:38 The flick was based on the true story of the 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission,
00:42 which never landed on the moon due to the aforementioned problem.
00:45 It stars Tom Hanks as Commander Jim Lovell,
00:48 who spoke the line that's now become a pop culture staple.
00:51 "This is Houston, uh, say again please?"
00:54 "Houston, we have a problem."
00:55 Number 29. I feel the need.

01:09 that statement had been made famous by none other than Maverick himself, Tom Cruise.

01:19 It's hard to hear the words without instantly picturing the scene they originated in,
01:24 which tells you everything you need to know about its impact.
01:27 Now that the 2022 sequel has brought the franchise to the front of our minds once more,
01:31 we're sure a whole new generation of moviegoers will be expressing their need for speed.

01:40 The line, followed by the slow-mo kick, is undeniably 300.
01:44 "This is Sparta!"
01:46 But had things gone a bit differently,
01:52 "This is Sparta" might not be as instantly recognizable and synonymous with its film as it is.
01:57 As Gerard Butler explained to GQ magazine,
02:00 he'd done many takes, usually reciting the line in a more subdued way.
02:04 But then he asked director Zack Snyder if he could try it one more time,
02:07 at which point he gave the reading we know and love.
02:10 Sure, it was over the top.
02:11 He knew it and those on set seemingly knew it.

02:23 There are a lot of movies where people build things,
02:26 but only one we can think of where that thing is a baseball field in a cornfield.
02:31 Why does Kevin Costner's character Ray Kinsella build said baseball field, you ask?
02:35 Because a disembodied voice tells him,
02:37 "If you build it, he will come."
02:40 Is the he shoeless Joe Jackson or Kinsella's deceased father?
02:45 That is for the viewer to decide and experience.
02:48 But for cinephiles and baseball lovers everywhere,
02:51 the words, "If you build it, he will come," will always evoke Field of Dreams.
02:55 While we're on the subject of baseball movies,
03:03 let's not forget about a League of Their Own's iconic line.
03:05 Number 26. Nobody puts Baby in a corner.
03:12 Dirty Dancing.
03:13 Everyone remembers that final dance number in Dirty Dancing,
03:16 where Johnny and Baby wow the Kellerman's crowd with his kind of dancing.
03:20 But prior to hitting the stage,
03:22 Patrick Swayze's Johnny Castle grabs Baby from her table
03:25 after uttering a now iconic statement at her dad.
03:28 Years later, Swayze reportedly admitted that he initially, quote, "hated" the line,
03:34 finding it, quote, "corny" and hesitant to speak the scripted words.
03:38 However, the final product changed his mind, as he saw how effective it is.
03:49 Indeed, it works so well that hearing it immediately brings the movie to mind
03:53 and gets us ready to bust out our dancing shoes.

04:01 Given its popularity today, you might be surprised to learn that
04:04 The Shawshank Redemption didn't do well at the box office back in 1994.
04:08 But instead of just going away and dying,
04:10 the film built on its critical accolades and popularity among viewers,
04:14 eventually becoming a beloved classic.
04:17 Many images are synonymous with it today,
04:19 but there's one piece of dialogue in particular
04:22 that always instantly transports us into the world of the film.
04:25 First spoken by Tim Robbins' Andy Dufresne to Morgan Freeman's Red,
04:33 it encompasses the story's theme of strength
04:35 in the face of apparent hopelessness to gorgeous effect.
04:38 It's no wonder it's had such a lasting impact.

04:52 and quite easily defeats all the foes put in front of him.
04:55 When the crowd's reaction is initially less than enthusiastic,
04:58 he angrily asks them one of the most famous questions cinema has ever heard.
05:02 Now, we know movie history is littered with stories about showmen,
05:07 but some find a way to stand out from the crowd.
05:10 Indeed, when we hear those four words,
05:12 or see them written in any number of online memes,
05:15 we know they're from Gladiator.
05:17 Number 23. It was Beauty killed the Beast. King Kong.
05:21 There are actually two right answers for this one,
05:24 and no, neither of them is Beauty and the Beast.
05:26 Although the quote does line up with the aforementioned Disney film,
05:29 we know Beauty actually saved the Beast there.
05:32 Rather, this famous quote is referring to another beast entirely,
05:36 the one known as, say it with us, King Kong.
05:42 In fact, it's so iconically associated with the creature
05:45 that it's been used as the final line of dialogue
05:47 in both its eponymous 1933 movie,
05:50 as well as Peter Jackson's 2005 retelling of the tale.
05:53 Much of 2001 A Space Odyssey happens in silence,
06:04 with director Stanley Kubrick even reportedly calling it a quote,
06:08 "non-verbal experience."
06:10 Though there are few words spoken throughout the two-plus-hour-long runtime,
06:14 there are a number of them that have become immediately recognizable.
06:18 Of course, we're thinking of six in particular.
06:20 They not only mark a pivotal point in the story,
06:25 they also continue to resonate today,
06:27 as the use of AI continues to increase.

06:33 to one of our legitimate demands the way Hal terrifyingly does in this scene.

06:40 Both "You Had Me" at "Hello" and "Show Me the Money"
06:51 instantly bring Jerry Maguire to the tip of everyone's tongue.
06:53 However, we tend to agree with the American Film Institute,
06:57 who placed the latter at number 25 on their "100 Years, 100 Movie Quotes" list,
07:02 with the former coming in slightly lower at number 52.

07:06 Maybe it's the backing music, the Cuba Gooding Jr. dance,
07:19 the screaming Tom Cruise, the way it's repeated, or a mix of it all.
07:24 But for some reason, whenever we hear this line,
07:26 we just want to show ourselves Jerry Maguire again for the umpteenth time.

07:51 In the midst of his Gotham crime spree,
