James Sturdy - Yorkshire Handmade Pies
Transcript
00:00 My name is James Sturdy and I'm the founder of Yorkshire Handmade Pies.
00:03 So can you tell us a bit about the history of Yorkshire Handmade Pies?
00:07 Yeah, Yorkshire Handmade Pies was founded in 2019 and we're based just outside Rippon in North Yorkshire.
00:14 And the business is all about making top quality pies that reflect the best of Yorkshire produce.
00:19 And how many pies do you make a week?
00:22 Currently we're making about 15,000 pies a week.
00:25 So we've had a great response to the business in the few years since we started.
00:29 And people have really just taken to the idea of a really well made pie.
00:33 Our tagline is 'Pies made properly', which hopefully sums it up.
00:37 We're all about using great ingredients and giving people just the best pie eating experience possible.
00:43 And we're in National Pie Week at the moment. What's Britain's favourite pie or Yorkshire's favourite pie?
00:50 Well, British Pie Week's a big week of the year for us pie makers.
00:54 And we've just commissioned some research recently.
00:57 We did a big survey of people who like pies across Britain.
01:01 And the results came out that the Steak and Ale is the nation's favourite pie,
01:05 which is certainly backed up by our data as well.
01:09 Brilliant. And I gather you also do some collaborations with other Yorkshire producers. Tell me a bit about those.
01:15 Well, we're all about reflecting Yorkshire produce.
01:18 So it's as much about the pies as it is about showcasing the incredible other Yorkshire producers that we've got to work with.
01:25 And we've got several examples where we buy direct from farmers.
01:30 For instance, our free range pork comes straight from a farm over in East Yorkshire.
01:35 Our chicken supplier is the same. We buy direct from the farmer.
01:38 So we're really about bringing these stories of small local artists and producers to life.
01:43 And what better way to do it than with a pie?
