A mixture of friends, family and supporters arrive at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton to see Manny and Jeevan begin their five-day trek from Molineux to St James's Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne to raise funds for Dementia UK
Transcript
00:00 Right so Manny and Jeevan, minutes to go before you get going. What are you feeling?
00:04 How are you feeling right now? A little bit cold, a bit emotional I think, a bit surreal that we're
00:11 about to do this I think you know but unbelievable all these people that have
00:16 turned out, my family you know friends and other fundraisers of the community
00:21 and fellow Wolves fans and I thank all of them for supporting us you know and
00:25 that's that's gonna stay with us all the support and the love that we've had.
00:29 The next 195 miles of course. Yeah we're trying to break it down just to you know
00:35 well Penkridge is first then Stafford you know and we'll just take it step by step.
00:42 How are you feeling Jeevan? It's gonna be tough but I just think the amount of support we've had so far
00:47 that will just push us like, I know it's gonna be a tough challenge but it's all about the cause at the end of the day
00:53 and what we're doing it for and that's what will keep us going.
00:56 And that's the biggest we've talked about as well, the cause itself is one of the big things.
00:59 Yeah I mean, Adventure UK represented here today and you know this is the thing, so many families are affected by this condition now
01:07 you know every three minutes someone's diagnosed, a million people and we
01:11 can't sit still and that's what we're doing, we're walking we're not sitting
01:15 still and the fan base are behind us so you know thank everybody, thank you for
01:20 the support and keep supporting and just to let everybody know last night since
01:25 the start when we announced this walk we went past 25,000 just for this walk alone
01:32 which is an unreal amount of money which will make a massive difference to the charity.
01:37 And obviously we've learned the lessons from last time haven't we?
01:40 I mean having someone to walk with you for a sale.
01:42 Oh man, the only reason he's walking with me and my other son has put a tag on my rucksack so he knows exactly where I am.
01:48 So yeah, they know Manny likes to wander so they're gonna keep an eye on me.
01:55 Hi I'm Adele Sherwood, Community Fundraising Manager for Adventure UK and we're absolutely thrilled that Manny and Jeevan are taking upon their walk today.
02:02 It's a delight to see so many people supporting them and thanks to everyone who's been fundraising for them
02:06 it's gonna make a massive difference to our Abor nurses.
02:09 You said something about the work that Manny does that he's about to do, he and Jeevan are about to do 200 miles for the support of the charity.
02:16 Can you put into words what it means to see them doing that?
02:21 We're a really small organisation at Dementia UK so for supporters like Manny and Jeevan to be undertaking this is absolutely amazing.
02:28 Phenomenal effort from them year after year as well with their fundraising.
02:32 So without them we wouldn't be able to help families affected by dementia.
02:36 Are you planning to take part in the walk or any way?
02:38 I'm afraid I'm not a walker but I'm here today and we've got our team at Newcastle and some volunteers on the way are gonna meet them at Huddersfield.
02:44 So every step of the way we'll be supporting Manny but probably more virtually than on the walk itself.
02:50 But obviously people can still support them along the way can't they?
02:52 Absolutely, please do support with fundraising and put hands in your pockets to help support our Abor nurses, we'd be really thrilled.
02:59 Thank you everybody, keep supporting, keep sharing. See you in Newcastle if you're gonna be there. Cheers.
03:09 Cheers.
03:11 Cheers.
