00:00 (audience cheering)
00:03 She's a diva of daytime TV who's not afraid to say it
00:09 like she means it.
00:10 Today she's revealing the big changes she's made
00:13 to her diet and her secret to her weight loss success.
00:16 Say how you doing to my friend, Wendy Williams.
00:19 (audience cheering)
00:22 (upbeat music)
00:25 Oh, I love having you here.
00:38 Thank you for coming.
00:39 Doesn't she look great?
00:39 Look at this.
00:40 Thank you.
00:41 (audience cheering)
00:42 Look at that.
00:43 I mean, I do what I can, Dr. O.
00:46 Oh, please, I can't be here.
00:47 I do what I can.
00:49 I sit in this chair or that one?
00:50 You can sit in the far one, the close one,
00:51 whatever you wanna sit, I'm gonna move away from
00:53 wherever you sit and then make you comfortable.
00:54 Do you want me to move?
00:55 Okay.
00:56 It's exhausting walking over here.
00:57 It's like a workout to get from that entryway.
00:59 Yeah, I call it the walk of shame.
01:01 (laughing)
01:02 Because if you fall, uh-oh.
01:04 It's bad news.
01:05 Well, yeah, that's a long walk.
01:07 Why do I have this microphone?
01:08 I have a microphone here.
01:09 Because we're gonna talk to the audience in a second.
01:10 Oh, okay.
01:11 We have a very, very important segment coming up
01:13 where you're gonna talk to the audience
01:14 to get your questions ready here.
01:16 So let's talk about you for one second.
01:17 Last time you came on, you just turned 50.
01:18 Yes.
01:19 What have you learned about yourself in the past year?
01:21 I have learned that 51 is even better than 50.
01:25 (audience applauding)
01:27 I turned 51 in July.
01:30 I've never felt better, stronger, or faster in my life.
01:34 Physically speaking, I have not weighed approximately,
01:37 and I'm not sure the exact number,
01:38 I think it's like 145 pounds that I weigh.
01:41 Is that what you weigh now?
01:41 Yeah.
01:42 Oh my goodness!
01:43 Yeah.
01:44 Oh my goodness!
01:45 It's a good weight for me at five feet 11
01:49 with heavier bones.
01:51 And I lost 50 pounds, which I didn't realize that
01:56 until I was talking to your show producers.
02:00 And they said, "Well, how much did you lose?"
02:02 I said, "Well, when I went to my endocrinologist,
02:04 I have the thyroid, but three years ago,
02:07 he goes, 'You weigh 195 pounds.'"
02:09 And I was like, "Oh my God, what happened?"
02:11 You know, in my mind.
02:12 And so I concentrated and concentrated,
02:15 and did it slowly but surely,
02:16 'cause I've been on every stupid diet you could possibly name.
02:19 But walk me through this.
02:21 What did you do?
02:22 I mean, losing 50 pounds, 55 pounds is a big deal.
02:25 Yeah.
02:25 Slow and steady is the name of the game.
02:29 I stopped getting on the scale
02:31 because I'm my own worst enemy.
02:33 And if I see that I've gained weight,
02:36 I feel very bad about myself.
02:37 But recently, me and Mike Heavins,
02:41 you know, my husband and son,
02:42 we- Mike Heavins.
02:43 We are vegans with an alkaline twist.
02:48 So we're, yeah, I don't eat meat.
02:50 Your favorite fatty.
02:51 Yes.
02:52 I don't eat meat anymore.
02:53 It's been a life-changing thing.
02:55 I have very bad lower leg psoriasis.
02:58 You do?
02:59 And it started to, well, I use leg makeup,
03:00 and you know, I wear nude color fishnets.
03:02 That's the trick, girls.
03:03 But I have very bad lower leg psoriasis.
03:07 Yeah, and it started to creep up past my thigh,
03:11 or past my knee, and before it crept any higher,
03:14 if you know what I'm saying.
03:15 (laughing)
03:16 And I think you do.
03:17 I said, "Well, we have to do something."
03:20 And then my husband is asthmatic,
03:22 and he has eczema, but his eczema is much better, you know.
03:27 And then our son has very bad eczema.
03:30 And so we said, "Let's do something."
03:31 And I'm the oldest out of all of us.
03:32 I'm older, I married a younger man.
03:35 Good for you.
03:35 (audience applauding)
03:37 He has very good taste in women, by the way, your Kevin.
03:39 Thank you.
03:40 But I'm the oldest out of all of us.
03:42 And I said, "At 51, why not try?"
03:44 Like, I wanna live, life is good.
03:46 I wanna live, Dr. Oz.
03:47 And I don't take any medicine right now,
03:49 except for a pill a day for thyroid.
03:52 My cholesterol and my heart and everything is good.
03:54 And before everything gets bad, you know,
03:56 because people on the other side of 50,
03:59 of which John Likwesama calls it,
04:01 being a half a century old.
04:03 Like, why do you have to put it that way?
04:05 (audience laughing)
04:06 You know, I wanna live, and I don't wanna take pills.
04:09 And I wanna live.
04:11 So has it helped being on that strict of a program?
04:14 I get the weight loss part,
04:16 but you are seeing, in general, joint pain,
04:19 the things that most of us start to suffer
04:20 from after age 50,
04:22 which I suspect you're probably experiencing as well.
04:23 Have they changed with this program?
04:25 No, because I never had the joint pains and stuff before.
04:29 Like, I'm like 21, Dr. Oz.
04:31 I don't know who you think you're talking to.
04:32 I can see it.
04:33 (audience applauding)
04:34 I am like 21 years old.
04:36 I've got a very healthy libido.
04:39 I've got a very, very good recovery.
04:42 Like, when I do my Pilates,
04:43 I fell off the stage the other week when I was doing,
04:46 well, don't laugh, okay.
04:48 Falling is always funny.
04:50 I walked to the end, this is during my standup,
04:53 and I fell off the stage, and they put it on the TMZ,
04:57 so you can Google it and find it.
04:59 But I recovered like nothing.
05:01 And I was not black and blue,
05:03 and I did not ache the next day.
05:05 And before those things start to happen to me, Dr. Oz,
05:08 I just felt like a change in diet would be good.
05:12 Why not?
05:13 Yeah.
05:14 You know, you've been very open,
05:15 and I really appreciate it,
05:16 but I think everyone else does as well,
05:17 about the ups and downs in your weight,
05:19 the struggles that you've experienced,
05:20 'cause we all do them.
05:21 So I would love, if it's okay,
05:23 everyone wants to know exactly
05:24 how they can have results just like you.
05:26 So we're gonna start a new segment on the show.
05:28 Okay.
05:29 It's called, "How You Chewin'."
05:30 Oh!
05:31 There you are.
05:31 Hi, guys.
05:32 How you chewin'?
05:33 How you chewin'?
05:34 (audience applauding)
05:35 Come on over here.
05:36 Grab your mic.
05:36 Okay.
05:37 We're gonna find out if the audience can stump you
05:40 with how you're chewin' questions.
05:42 Are you guys ready for your question?
05:43 I warned you ahead of time now.
05:44 All right, who wants to ask the first,
05:46 how you chewin'?
05:47 Come on up here.
05:48 Let's do it.
05:48 Come on up here.
05:49 Can you make it here?
05:50 Uh-oh.
05:51 I'll support you.
05:52 I always will, you know.
05:53 Uh-oh.
05:54 There we are, there we are.
05:54 Do you think that was a walk of shame over there?
05:56 (Wendy grunting)
05:57 There you are.
05:58 All right, dear.
05:59 What's your question for Wendy?
06:01 Hi, Wendy, how you chewin'?
06:02 How you chewin'?
06:03 You can go ahead and stand up.
06:05 Wait, Dr. Ross, don't let me go.
06:07 I'm supporting.
06:08 Can I go?
06:08 You can hold on to me.
06:10 I'm a woman of a certain age like you,
06:12 and I've been a yo-yo dieter my entire life.
06:15 And I was wondering,
06:16 how do you keep from falling off the wagon
06:18 and eating junk food?
06:20 Well, now we make our own junk food at home.
06:23 You know, I know how to make homemade potato chips.
06:25 We only use sea salt.
06:26 We don't use regular table salt.
06:29 I know how to make homemade plantain chips.
06:30 I make my own ketchup.
06:31 I make, now it's easy
06:34 because we've been doing this all summer.
06:35 But prior to that, I had already lost a lot of weight,
06:39 and I didn't deny myself of anything.
06:41 What I say is tomorrow will be a better day.
06:45 And I promised myself that.
06:46 And it worked.
06:47 Okay.
06:48 Yeah. Thank you so much.
06:49 Thank you. Yes.
06:50 A how you chewin' question over here.
06:50 You got one?
06:51 (audience applauding)
06:52 There you are.
06:53 How you chewin'?
06:54 How you chewin'?
06:55 I said, how you chewin'?
06:56 How you chewin', Wendy?
06:59 Is it hard to eat healthy and stay,
07:01 I forgot my question.
07:05 You're gonna take your time?
07:06 Wait a minute.
07:06 You were at my show earlier today.
07:08 She was?
07:09 Yes.
07:10 Oh, I loved it.
07:10 Oh my gosh.
07:11 I loved it.
07:13 I recognize your pin.
07:14 Yes.
07:15 They're making the rounds.
07:16 I love that.
07:17 Yes.
07:18 Is it harder to eat healthy
07:19 and keep the weight off after 50?
07:22 No, it's actually easier.
07:23 I'm gonna tell you why.
07:24 Why?
07:25 Because I am very aware that metabolism slows down.
07:28 And I am really loving being at my optimum at this age.
07:32 And I don't wanna undo it.
07:34 So it's easier now to keep the weight off
07:36 than it was, say, if I did this when I was 25 or 35.
07:40 You know?
07:40 Yes.
07:41 Wonderful.
07:42 Thank you.
07:43 Thank you.
07:44 One more how you chewin' question.
07:45 Thank God.
07:45 Come on down.
07:46 Can you make it down?
07:47 (audience applauding)
07:48 I don't know, Dr. Oz.
07:49 Can't support you.
07:50 She's making it, she's making it.
07:52 Okay.
07:52 Wendy, how you chewin'?
07:54 How you chewin'?
07:55 (audience laughing)
07:56 I have read all the celebrity fad diets
07:59 and I even heard Beyonce went vegan.
08:04 Should I do the same?
08:05 I say do what's right for you.
08:08 'Cause here's one thing that I will tell all of you all,
08:11 and I don't care.
08:12 You know, I am somewhat of a celebrity.
08:14 Even I cheated.
08:17 You know, in 1994, liposuction, breast implants.
08:21 After we had our son, I got a tummy tuck.
08:24 So I already had something to put me on a track
08:26 to wanna keep it off.
08:28 You know, celebrities are constantly doing things.
08:31 Don't believe the hype.
08:33 Okay?
08:34 But do what works for you.
08:36 Thank you for watching.
08:36 Don't forget to subscribe and turn on notifications
