Claire Coutinho says Sir Keir Starmer is the "real culprit" for the pressure growing on Sir Lindsay Hoyle to step down as Speaker. The energy security secretary says the Labour leader put the speaker in an "intolerable position" over a House of Commons debate on a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Report by Brooksl. 00:00 Well look, I think the Speaker is a decent man, he's a really well-respected parliamentarian.
00:04 I didn't agree with the ruling that he made.
00:07 But I think the real culprit here is Keir Starmer.
00:09 I think he's put the Speaker in an intolerable position by saying that we should bow to intimidation
00:15 and external influences.
00:17 No intimidation should change the way that we vote in Parliament or what we vote on.
00:20 It's completely unacceptable that MP safety or legislative safety is put into question.
00:26 But this is not the first time in our history and it won't be the last.
00:29 And the last thing that we should be doing is what Keir Starmer asked the Speaker to
00:33 do this week, which is change the way we vote, change how we vote based on external intimidation.
00:39 That's exactly what these extremists want and that's exactly what we must not do.
