00:00 In my hand I hold just some of the messages notorious killer Chris Watts said to women who have written to him in prison
00:06 Since he pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant wife and two little girls
00:10 Some are true crime buffs convinced. They've uncovered a conspiracy
00:14 Others are concerned mobs trying to understand what caused a seemingly loving dad to commit unthinkable evil and
00:22 Some are prison groupies looking for love with the infamous inmate today in an odd show exclusive
00:29 I'm sitting down with one of the women who's been accused of pursuing a romantic relationship with Chris Watts
00:34 Was she really part of a prison love triangle? And what did she learn about?
00:38 this truly disturbing father
00:41 It was a story that shocked the world
00:44 Chris and Shanann Watts appeared to be a picture-perfect couple with two young girls and
00:50 Happily anticipating the birth of their third child. So pink means
00:55 That's just the test. I know I just said the pink is gonna be girls. I know that's awesome
01:00 but in August of
01:02 2018 Watts his family vanished after Shanann returned from a weekend business trip and he made a
01:09 desperate public plea for their safe return
01:11 But just hours later Watts confessed to his father that he killed his pregnant wife after accusing her of
01:20 strangling their daughters
01:22 I can tell
01:24 Not just this
01:27 rage
01:29 His story soon unraveled and Watts was arrested and
01:34 Charged with killing his 34 year old wife four-year-old Bella three-year-old Celeste and his unborn child
01:42 Their bodies were found at an oil site where he worked
01:46 Shanann in a shallow grave and his little girls stuffed inside oil tanks all
01:52 Reportedly so he could start a new life with his mistress of just a few months
01:56 Ultimately Chris Watts pleaded guilty to felony charges relating to the horrific murders and received five life
02:05 sentences without parole
02:07 But within days of admitting to killing his family
02:10 He reportedly began receiving love letters in prison and he's been corresponding with multiple women
02:16 ever since
02:18 I'm joined now by Krista who began communicating with Chris Watts a year and a half ago
02:25 So Krista, what made you want to write a letter to a convicted murderer?
02:29 When I saw the case
02:32 Prevented online and on the media
02:35 Initially, I I assumed he was a monster and he did this and then as I looked into the case more
02:41 I just from watching the videos and how he interacted with his wife and children
02:45 There just was something there and I just had this feeling that he did not commit this crime
02:50 And that's one of the main reasons I decided to write to him Chris. I'm sort of still lost
02:55 You're corresponding with someone who's in prison. Do you have any relationships to prisons?
03:00 I do I grew up after nine years old for a couple of years. My father is in federal prison in Alleman, Pennsylvania
03:06 So every weekend was trips down to Pennsylvania from Connecticut phone calls collect calls
03:12 We'd have to be home at a certain time letters have to write letters back to my dad
03:16 So my life consists of that very young go into prisons
03:19 And then I decided to work in them after seeing the treatment
03:23 My father received not saying my dad is innocent because he admitted to his crimes
03:26 I just had a different perspective and I wanted to help people
03:30 So he didn't respond to you directly at least at first. He gave your letter to another inmate there a gentleman named Dylan Talman and
03:39 You eventually got engaged to Dylan. I did how did how did your letters lead to that?
03:44 Well when I wrote to Chris
03:46 He gave the letter to Dylan and the picture that I sent and then Dylan wrote back
03:50 explaining that Chris was involved with somebody and he gets a lot of letters every day and
03:55 He started writing to me and then I continued writing with Dylan and I didn't reach out to Chris again
04:01 So you eventually broke off your engagement? Yes get it on the same. Yes
04:05 Partially I I'm hearing because Dylan thought you were more interested in Chris than him. Yes, and that's not true
04:11 There is no love triangle at all. I had no interest in Chris in that way not romantically at all
04:16 So I'm gonna show the audience a photo that you did send to Chris
04:20 Absolutely
04:21 This is in the first letter and people when they see this photo are gonna think it's proof that you were trying to romantically
04:25 Pursue him. No, you were not trying to date. I was I was not absolutely not and why include the picture of yourself?
04:33 I wanted him to know who he was speaking to I the letter I sent was very informal
04:37 I didn't talk anything clinical to him for my profession
04:41 I just wanted to talk to him as a friend and
04:43 Tell him that there are people that don't feel that he either completely did this or did it at all
04:48 So Chris Watts was recently called the most hated man in his prison
04:53 Yes, and there probably a fair number of people in prisons that aren't liked. It's a harsh moniker
04:58 And you say you that you eventually did get to talk to him
05:01 So I want to understand more about what's going on in his mind. He spoke a dozen times
05:05 Yes, you obviously have some insights here. So you argued that he's funny on the phone
05:10 I'm not I don't think any of us have really seen that side of him
05:13 He is he was very what you see in the videos is how he presents himself. He's very funny. He's kind
05:20 he has a dry sense of humor and
05:22 He's very he appears to be very genuine
05:27 Did he ever flirt with you not at all no very respectful at all times you you find him attractive
05:33 I mean, I think he's a handsome gentleman. I think they were beautiful family. So but not in a romantic way
05:40 There are times in your discussions where you say he has cried. Yes, what happened when he spoke to me about
05:47 The family his wife and his children
05:50 He said that he was crying on the phone and I asked him what he was he upset about was the first time
05:57 He ever really showed anything besides humor and laughter
05:59 and he said that it bothered him when they showed him the pictures of his family after they passed and
06:05 That's when he cried on the phone and kind of broke down and showed remorse
06:08 These are pictures of the map today been pulled out of the barrels
06:12 It is
06:15 All right coming up for Chris Watson fellow inmate Dylan more than just friends. Krista reveals what she knows
06:22 Last year news broke that convicted killer Chris Watts and another inmate named Dylan had been disciplined after Chris's
06:29 Vaseline and a pair of his underwear were found in Dylan's cell the news led some to speculate that they were
06:35 Romantically involved with each other my guest Krista was engaged to Dylan at the time. So Krista
06:41 What's your understanding of what really happened when Dylan was in Dodge Correctional?
06:46 He was on appeal hold which didn't allow him to have money on his books or his account
06:51 Therefore Chris was his next door to him and Chris would often buy him stuff and give him things and it's something pretty common that
06:57 They do in prisons
06:59 I've worked in prisons in Connecticut and that's something inmates do they help each other out if somebody doesn't have food or clothing and
07:05 It's just something that Chris did there was no
07:07 relationship, so there's a bag of stuff he gave it happened to have yes, it had
07:12 New underwear in it with Chris's name in it. They have to label everything
07:16 Vaseline Dylan would use Vaseline on his lips
07:19 Hygiene products coffee granola bars. There is much more besides just the
07:24 Vaseline and underwear. Okay. Yeah, the especially though do you share some letters that
07:30 Were appear to be between Chris and Dylan and in these letters their messages that Chris is sending to you
07:37 Yes
07:38 And in one of them recorded Chris writes I could see Krista calling up here giving the staff a piece of her mind and letting
07:44 Them have it in true Northeastern over-the-top style
07:46 My wife and her family were from New Jersey and you don't piss anyone off from the north. Haha
07:52 He writes so it's a little bizarre that Chris compared you to his murdered wife the wife that he murdered. How does that make you feel?
07:59 I
08:00 Mean when I think of Shanann, I just see a beautiful individual and if I could be an ounce of what she is
08:06 That's a compliment to me
08:08 So Chris's wife Shetron and had lupus which is something that you've also told me that you have
08:13 Yes, and this next letter refers to that she writes she has to keep her anxiety down me you
08:19 Brother this is triggering the flares that she's having she can handle this. I know she can
08:25 So again, she's giving you advice that he I'm certain gave Shanann a woman
08:31 He has admitted to murdering at least legally. Yes
08:34 So you have a master's degree in psychology you say you've worked in prisons in the past
08:39 Let me ask you a tough question. Do you think Chris Watts was corresponding with you?
08:44 So we could manipulate you so we can get things from you. Yeah, I
08:47 Don't think he's completely not manipulative. I don't feel he manipulates me. I haven't I haven't felt that way
08:55 But do I think he manipulates others? It's possible. Yes
08:59 He does manipulate people I believe so yes
09:05 He says one of his letters that his mom Cindy will call you
09:09 Again, it's a fairly intimate thing to introduce someone to their mother
09:13 So why would Chris Watts do that to you if he doesn't have?
09:16 Interest in you when the incident happened with the boxers and the Vaseline and Dylan's now Dylan was placed into a seg into
09:25 Into seg for about a month. What's that mean segregation when they put him in the hole?
09:30 They put him in segregation. Is that because they thought that there was something going on between them sexually?
09:35 Yes, and they also felt the contraband. They called it contraband. It's not supposed to be in each other's cells
09:40 So I didn't talk to Dylan for about two weeks. Chris was given two weeks in segregation
09:45 He came out and then he contacted Cindy his mother to tell her to call me to inform me that Dylan was in segregation
09:52 And then that's when she contacted me and then she and I had a very close relationship
09:56 From then on does the Cindy think her son murdered Shanann? No, she doesn't
10:01 But he confessed it on tape to her husband. Yes. Yes
10:06 My opinion and from the conversations I've had I do feel and I want to say in my opinion
10:12 I do feel the mistress that he had and her family and possible friends were involved in that
10:17 So I want to ask you another
10:21 About another person mentioned in Chris's letters. He writes pray for me because my calls with Anna have been very lustful lately
10:28 Yeah, so explain to everybody who Anna is and what is Chris's relationship with her? Okay when I wrote to Chris he was dating Anna
10:35 She was somebody that he was dating
10:37 I'm not sure if they're still dating but they were dating and she and I became friends and we talked a couple of times a
10:42 day and
10:44 He was concerned because he turned to religion and feels very religious
10:48 He felt that he was committing a sin by having those kind of conversations with her
10:52 I'm gonna ask you one more time because when I first heard the case like everybody else in America shocked
10:58 I couldn't believe it could possibly happen then I
11:00 Watched I have done this several times the video of him telling his father that he broke and
11:06 Killed her. So why do you think he's innocent?
11:10 From what I feel and from what I was told
11:14 He already said that he already lost his wife and children
11:17 He wasn't gonna lose his parents and sister and niece and nephew. So he decided just to confess to that to keep everyone alive
11:23 This is dark it is it's sad it's unimaginable
11:30 Do you have any regrets about your relationship with Chris Watts? I don't I I feel what I did was okay
11:38 I know there's a lot of people that don't like me and they probably think I'm crazy for my opinion and what I feel
11:44 But I stick by it and I just want all the families involved and loved ones to find peace
11:48 Thank you for sharing your story on the show. Thank you. Dr. Oz. Thank you for having me. Appreciate it
11:54 So Chris's mistress Nicole Kessinger willingly provided evidence to investigators
11:57 After these murders and is reportedly now living in witness protection according to authorities Chris Watts acted alone
12:04 When he committed these unthinkable murders coming up, we have more shocking revelations from Chris Watts's prison letters. We'll be right back
12:12 We're back with more revelations from the prison letters of Chris Watts in one letter
12:16 Chris writes of evidence that is known and has never been examined and
12:21 Claims there was an abuse of power and coercion and procedural issues. They were committed by law enforcement
12:26 No one I mean no one has covered this case more closely than crime stories with Nancy Grace host Nancy Grace
12:32 She's also the author of don't be a victim a beautifully done book and she joins us now
12:38 So this is talk a little bit about Chris Watts. He has filed an appeal
12:41 Actually, he hasn't filed an appeal I that I know of has he done anything else or offered any evidence that he his falsely
12:47 Accused because he confessed to these crimes Oh
12:50 Dr. Oz how I would love to get him up on the stand on cross-examination when he says
12:57 procedural errors
12:59 coerced behavior
13:01 Injustice what injustice what procedural error it seems to throw out legal terms. He's learned in the jailhouse library
13:09 But there's nothing to support it. Let me remind everybody
13:12 He took a guilty plea. This is another lie by Chris Watts to manipulate
13:20 Women and I got a lot to say about that to Oz let's get to that
13:24 What is it about Chris Watts that attracts this type of attention?
13:27 Number one some people think he's physically attractive not me. I think he's a killer
13:34 He looks like the devil to me because I know what he did
13:38 But you got to look at these women no offense to Krista or all the other women writing Chris Watts
13:43 Some of them are insecure to some women. He's a martyr wrongfully convicted to others
13:49 He tells them the gory details because they want to hear it. Then you have your run-of-the-mill fame seekers. They're all misled
13:57 Actually, we brought this up, but I want to touch on it again
14:00 I've interviewed another woman who wrote to Chris Watts
14:03 Her name is Sherilyn Cato and she's a grandmother and she wrote because she wanted to understand why he would do these heinous things
14:09 And in one letter to her he wrote in detail about killing his family to your point
14:14 You can see the handwriting by the way appears the same in the letter to her and the letters that Krista gave us
14:20 I'm gonna pull out just one word, you know, just look at the word family, right?
14:24 Does it look pretty similar the same person? Oh my goodness. This is the same
14:27 Handwriting, right? So in one letter he's saying I did something horrible. The other one he says I'm innocent
14:32 So what's your point? You got I think?
14:34 He is conning these women and this is the deal when you don't know a horse Oz look at the track record
14:42 He has manipulated Shanann. I'm giving myself chill bumps right now
14:46 Shanann loved him so much and according to evidence. She was praying to God
14:53 Pray to God when he strangled her after he had sex with her by the way had sex with her
15:01 Then he killed her
15:02 Then he killed his two little girls one of them say daddy. No
15:07 I'm working up to a point Oz just go with me. Then they are taken out
15:13 To Anna Darko where he worked they were crammed
15:17 Forced down into oil containers forced the opening was eight inches
15:24 It tore the skin off of those little girls ages three and four shoulders and as they marinated in that oil
15:32 They were deep sleep. That's a nice way of saying their skin came off
15:38 He sent his wife
15:41 To a shallow grave where she had coffin birth Oz she expelled baby Nico
15:48 Yes, she gave birth coffin birth into her underwear in
15:53 The dirt that is what he did. Why is that significant? Why do I bring up those details? I don't enjoy them
16:01 I'm not some ghoul. I bring them up because his confessions
16:04 Fit perfectly with the forensic evidence
16:08 Why does he know the details because he committed the crimes and by God in heaven?
16:15 I will not stand by and let somebody blame Shanann Watts or any other
16:21 Innocent person for what he did
16:23 That's I'd never heard some of those details and they say they are gruesome
16:28 Actually, and that's the tip of the iceberg
16:32 Oz the tip of the iceberg we bring in forensic psychologists an author of evil thoughts wicked deeds because that's what we're talking about
16:39 Dr. Chris behind the Chris what does getting all these love letters and other communications due to the head of a prisoner like Chris Watts?
16:47 Feeds his ego keeps his game going. He can still have his hustle, you know when he was out there
16:53 He had his you know had his wife. He had his mistress
16:56 He's leading a double life and he's able to get all of that admiration that adulation to gratify his needs
17:03 He's still doing it from prison with these, you know, I would call them victims
17:09 You know, he's still got victims out there that he's manipulating. He's an opportunist. This is what he does
17:16 Nancy I appreciate your passion Chris all the great wisdom a brand new version by the way of Nancy's book
17:20 Don't be a victim is available today. Be sure to get a copy. It is superbly well done. Thank you for watching
