00:00 From the evidence, it appears that Defendant Mays,
00:03 that's the first person I read off charges on,
00:06 Defendant Mays was in a verbal argument
00:09 with another individual.
00:10 And the evidence does not reflect in these early moments
00:15 that there was any prior history between these individuals.
00:19 Mays and the individual he was in
00:21 some kind of verbal dispute with.
00:23 There was no connection to each other,
00:26 those two individuals.
00:28 Now, that argument very quickly escalated
00:32 to Mays drawing his firearm, a handgun.
00:35 Mays pulled his handgun first.
00:41 Almost immediately, almost immediately,
00:46 others pulled their firearms.
00:48 Now today, regarding Mr. Mays,
00:50 he is in custody and he faces the following charges.
00:54 Murder in the second degree, felony murder,
00:57 the underlying felony of unlawful use of a weapon.
01:00 And this is of course an A felony,
01:02 the highest charge that Missouri has available,
01:05 and it brings up to a life sentence.
01:07 There are another count of unlawful use of a weapon
01:13 for shooting at a person.
01:15 That is the Class B felony,
01:17 and the sentence range is up to 15 years
01:21 on that particular count under Missouri law.
01:24 And then there are two associated
01:26 armed criminal action charges.
01:28 Mr. Mays is being held on a $1 million bond.
