00:00 Some Filipino athletes are worried about the possibility of being banned from the Philippines
00:04 for participating in a sports event like the Olympics.
00:08 Because of the lack of follow-up from the Philippines,
00:11 they were contacted by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
00:14 The Philippine Sports Commission explained in the interview with Oscar Oida.
00:18 The most awaited Olympic qualifying tournament is the weightlifter,
00:27 Vanessa Sarno.
00:29 She only needs to score a few points
00:32 to be included in the list of additional Filipino athletes
00:36 for 2024 Paris Olympics.
00:38 At the end of March, she will compete in Phuket, Thailand
00:42 to secure a spot in the Olympics.
00:45 That's why she's alarmed by the news
00:48 that it's possible for the Philippines to be banned
00:51 from the main sporting events like the Olympics and Asian Games.
00:55 This is because of the lack of follow-up from the Philippines
00:59 to the words of the World Anti-Doping Agency or WADA,
01:03 which is the agency of the International Olympic Committee.
01:07 It's a waste if you can't play the Olympics.
01:10 It's only been six months.
01:13 My coach told me that I shouldn't worry about it.
01:17 Our Asian Games jujitsu gold medalist is Ani Ramirez,
01:21 who is praying that the ban will not continue.
01:25 I hope that the WADA will be fine
01:29 and that the agency will be able to provide
01:34 the necessary sanctions
01:38 to prevent the WADA from continuing in the Philippines.
01:44 According to the Philippine Sports Commission or PSC,
01:47 some of the most wanted by the WADA
01:50 are the capabilities of the Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization or FINADO,
01:54 which facilitates the necessary anti-doping tests.
01:58 Right now, we only have one planteer position in FINADO,
02:02 and one which is consultant, and then two COS.
02:07 FINADO asked for 48 million for this year,
02:11 and we only received 10 million.
02:13 On the testing alone, we already have 12 to 14 million.
02:17 So if you can say, it's a lot.
02:18 At the moment, they are doing the necessary steps
02:22 to follow the WADA's instructions.
02:25 Everything is being clarified.
02:26 We are talking with WADA every week.
02:28 We have meetings with WADA.
02:30 And together with PSC and POC, we usually meet them.
02:34 At the moment, PSC is already consulting with various agencies,
02:39 even Malacanang, to address the budget shortfall.
02:43 PSC is also confirming that our campaigns
02:48 in international competitions such as the Olympics will not be postponed.
02:51 It's still business as usual for WADA athletes.
02:54 From now until June, those who are qualifying for Olympics,
02:59 they will still continue.
03:00 And then for the sports associations who are holding
03:06 international or world competitions, for now, nothing is jeopardized.
03:11 For GM Integrated News,
03:13 Oscar Oida,
03:14 for Tutok,
03:15 24 hours.
