Transcript
00:00 >> August, working out here today, getting this chance with HBCU Combine,
00:04 just what does this opportunity represent for you?
00:06 >> It just represents more hard work.
00:08 Just makes me think about my journey, starting off at Rice,
00:13 and making my way back home here.
00:16 Just to get to do it here in New Orleans at the Saints facility is like a dream come
00:21 true.
00:22 You grow up in Louisiana.
00:23 As a kid playing football, Saints, LSU, those are the teams,
00:28 the schools you look up to, and just getting to perform,
00:33 show my ability at this stage here is real special to me.
00:37 And it's just a combination of hard work and perseverance.
00:41 It's just nice to see it come true.
00:44 >> How did you feel like you performed there?
00:46 >> I think I did well.
00:47 I really like to get locked in with an actual trainer.
00:56 It's just been tough.
00:59 I'm in law school right now.
01:01 I had the opportunity to talk to some trainers, but
01:05 a lot of trainers are out of state, different places.
01:08 And it's really hard just with my class schedule.
01:11 Having to be in-person classes and
01:14 miss a certain amount of classes, get dropped from the course, and
01:17 things of that nature.
01:18 So just being able to come out here and perform,
01:24 I feel like I did pretty well.
01:27 >> Have you allowed yourself to envision the entire process and
01:29 get a chance to practice?
01:31 Everything in the Saints facility, the draft eventually gonna come up.
01:34 You had a chance to envision the NFL yet.
01:39 >> I mean, I don't really know what it looks like per se, but
01:43 I always imagine it.
01:45 Every time I get the opportunity to come in and
01:50 practice here for the Bayou Classic.
01:54 We played in the Super Bowl for the Bayou Classic two years.
01:58 We had a really good game this past season in the Bayou Classic against Brown.
02:02 I'm a person that I envision everything.
02:06 Law school, I envision making it to the end of that tunnel.
02:09 Yeah, I envision myself playing on the next level.
02:11 I see guys, it's me, me and me.
02:15 I feel like certain things guys can do, I can do.
02:17 I feel like there's things that I can do that certain guys can't do.
02:21 And I just wanted to put my best foot forward.
02:24 I'm just happy to be here.
02:26 It's a blessing.
02:27 It kind of happened last minute.
02:29 I got this invitation to come.
02:31 So I'm just happy I got to take advantage of the moment.
02:36 Just getting ready to get prepared for my pro day and
02:39 hopefully put out a better performance there.
02:41 >> Where are you doing your pro day at?
02:45 >> I think my pro day is back here, March 26th.
02:48 It won't be at Southern, it'll be here.
02:50 >> A lot of faces from the block getting their way over here today.
02:52 >> Yeah.
02:53 >> How does that kind of make you feel more comfortable in everything that you're
02:55 doing?
02:56 >> I mean, it was real nice.
02:57 I didn't really know until this morning I got a couple texts from some of my coaches.
03:03 A couple of my coaches were actually coaches helping put this together,
03:07 helping guys with drills and stuff like that.
03:10 But even a couple more, like some of our recruiting coordinators,
03:14 some other people on the coaching staff were here.
03:18 It was just nice, it kind of settles you down.
03:20 It's been a real nerve wracking just being in a hotel,
03:24 interview process and things of that nature.
03:26 You put so much into it, it's hard to think all these years of hard work,
03:32 conditioning, lifting weights.
03:34 It all comes for this one day really.
03:39 But to see those familiar faces, it helped keep me grounded,
03:42 it helped settle me in.
03:43 I feel like it allowed for me to just put my best foot forward.
03:48 I said my prayer, I said I planted the seed, God.
03:54 I just ask that you increase and I'll give it to you,
03:56 cuz I've been so worried about this moment.
03:58 Really to the point where I'm kind of stressed about it,
04:02 which I'm sure a lot of guys are here.
04:04 But I just told God I was giving it to him, and
04:08 I was gonna put my best foot forward, and all I could do is my best, that's it.
04:12 >> When you're talking to those teams,
04:13 what do you kind of tell them about when they're getting August Peay?
04:17 >> I tell them when they're getting August Peay,
04:20 my opinion I feel like they're getting a guy that can do it all.
04:23 I can go up and get it, I can win in the intermediate game.
04:27 I'm tough, I get yards after the catch, I know that's a big deal.
04:31 I'm a competitor, I don't like to lose.
04:34 Somebody jumps farther than me, I wanna jump farther than them.
04:38 Somebody runs faster than me, I wanna run faster than them.
04:41 I wanna know what they're doing.
04:42 That's the guy everybody looking at.
04:45 I feel like maybe not as many eyes are on me, I'm right in his hip pocket.
04:49 So I think most of all, you're getting a competitor.
04:52 Somebody that's gonna persevere through whatever challenges may surface in
04:57 the situation.
04:58 And you go get the same guy every day, regardless of the situation,
05:02 whether it's a tough or a good situation.
05:05 I try to stay even-keeled, and I think that's something big for me.
05:09 That's something I'm good at doing.
05:12 >> How's law school going?
05:13 >> It's going good.
05:14 It's second semester right now.
05:16 Just kinda made it way through this spring semester,
05:21 it's shortened compared to the fall semester.
05:24 But it's been really good.
05:27 I have some support in the law center.
05:29 And it's really nice.
05:31 Some of my classmates, I'm doing group projects and stuff with them.
05:34 Reaching out to me, wishing me luck.
05:36 My professor, when he called on me in class, like superstar.
05:40 And I don't really like that, but he's been doing it since last semester.
05:45 He keeps doing it, so I just let him rock with it.
05:47 But just like I said, happy to be here, real blessed.
05:52 Yeah.
05:53 >> Thanks, brother.
