00:04 for the Jewish family of Herz, which was associated with the Kaminica before the war.

00:13 And the Herz family, until the 1930s, when they had to, or were forced to, emigrate

00:20 or be deported to the camp because of the repression by the Nazi authorities,

00:24 as Olga Herz, who was commemorated today,

00:27 lived here and was associated with the Kaminica.

00:30 So, as an institution, we wanted to commemorate this family, which is important to us.

00:36 This wall-breaking ceremony was preceded by great research on the Herz family,

00:39 which we found partly in Israel, partly in Argentina.

00:43 I am very happy because after 10 years we managed to wall-break these four stones today.

00:48 This is the beginning.

00:49 There were 21 victims of Nazism in the Kaminica.

00:52 They were Jews. This house was supposedly a Jewish house.

00:57 We had materials from the family.

00:59 We managed to establish contact.

01:00 During the renovation of the Kaminica a few years ago, we managed to establish contact with the descendants,

01:05 including Szczephi Herz, who was also commemorated.

01:08 In the meantime, unfortunately, she died.

01:10 But she also remembered the Kaminica, was a little girl, remembered the shoe shop.

01:15 So Szczephi passed family archives, or scans, photos, postcards,

01:21 because the Herz family exported shoes to the whole world.

01:25 So there are very interesting collections of shoes.

01:27 And from these various materials, also from archives, such as Yad Vashem or Bundesarchiv,

01:32 we managed to complete the knowledge of the family.
