Dry initially, but thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread from the southwest. Much of Scotland away from the south, will be bright with some sunshine and a scattering of showers, wintry over the highest ground – This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 13/02/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00 Hello, very good morning to you. It's a bit of a chilly start for some of us but the
00:04 chilly feels not going to last particularly long because there is some
00:08 milder air waiting to come in. That's behind a low-pressure system just to the
00:12 southwest of the UK. It's this feature that's going to feed its way
00:15 north-eastwards through today, bringing rain to many parts. For the time being
00:19 though, many of us waking up to a largely dry start, scattering of showers across
00:24 parts of Scotland, some sleet or snow over the highest ground here. Also watch
00:27 out for a touch of frost and some icy patches first thing across north-eastern
00:31 Scotland. But as we go through the morning, cloud and rain spilling up from
00:35 the southwest, spreading across much of England, Wales, even into Northern Ireland
00:39 and perhaps the far south of Scotland too. If we look at three o'clock in a bit
00:43 more detail and watch out for some showers for Orkney and Shetland, some
00:47 blustery winds here. Elsewhere across much of Scotland, a scattering of showers
00:50 still but some decent sunny weather to be had. No sunshine likely for many parts
00:55 of the rest of the UK. Quite a cloudy picture and there will be outbreaks of
00:59 rain which could be heavy at times but it is a relatively mild picture for many,
01:03 particularly towards the southwest. As we go through the end of the day, we are
01:07 going to stick with the largely cloudy theme across much of the UK. Further
01:10 outbreaks of rain which could be quite heavy for some of us. But across central
01:14 northern Scotland, largely clear skies here and under those clear skies
01:18 temperatures really are going to drop. Probably a little bit colder than last
01:22 night. We could see temperatures falling as low as -5 or -6 Celsius, so a
01:26 fairly widespread and harsh frost here. Again watch out for some icy patches.
01:30 Meanwhile across the rest of the country, with the cloudy theme and that milder
01:35 air and those outbreaks of rain much more unsettled, it is going to be a
01:38 milder start tomorrow morning. As we go through the day though, we are going to
01:42 stick with the largely unsettled picture for many places. Outbreaks of rain, heavy
01:46 at times. By the time that we head towards the afternoon, we sort of end up
01:50 with two zones of wet weather. Some persistent outbreaks of rain across
01:54 southern areas and then another zone of wet weather across parts of Northern
01:58 Ireland into southern Scotland and the far north of England too. In between
02:02 these two zones, perhaps something a little bit drier developing for a time.
02:05 Largely cloudy, any sunshine will be pretty limited. The greatest chance of
02:10 some sunshine tomorrow will again be across northern parts of Scotland, albeit
02:14 still a few scattered showers across Orkney and Shetland. Still a bit of a
02:18 north-south split in our temperatures in as much as across the far north. Even
02:22 though this is where it's likely to be sunniest, temperatures will still be on
02:26 the low side. Meanwhile elsewhere, the milder air will have fed its way in a
02:30 little bit further northward, so most places getting into double figures.
02:34 Highs of around 13 or 14 Celsius. As we look further on in the week, and Thursday
02:39 at the moment does look like it's going to be a pretty wet day, could see some
02:42 impacts because of the heavy rain we are expecting then. Otherwise, and like I said,
02:46 there's a relatively mild theme to things, but do bear in mind the nights
02:49 could still be a little bit chilly. We may see some fog at times, and at the
02:53 moment Friday definitely does look like it's going to be the driest day of the
02:56 week. We will be back later on and we'll have our deep dive available on our
03:01 YouTube channel, so do make sure to check that out. Otherwise I'll see you again
03:04 soon. Bye bye.
