00:00 How important is this kind of event for the events like this for the town of Ross?
00:04 The town council gives high priority to having a strong diary of events in the town over the year.
00:11 The council itself runs and funds quite a few, just to give you some examples,
00:17 Bands in the Park, Equinox Festival and the Christmas Fair, but it's also important that we
00:24 support the events that are run by others, including this joint event by the Rotary Club
00:31 and Ross Lions today, the Pancake Races. Why do we feel it's important? Because it not only gives
00:39 residents a chance to have a day out and an enjoyable experience and to forget about their
00:45 daily lives for once, but it's meant to try and make the town more attractive to visitors
00:52 with the overall aim of increasing footfall and therefore helping local businesses to grow.
00:59 Yeah, I just also want to ask about, as you said about the Rotary and the Lions Club,
01:03 how thankful are you for those kind of charities to be able to support events like this?
01:08 Oh, I think the community and voluntary group is vital to any community. A council can only do so
01:15 much. They step in and bridge the gap where we are unable to actually fulfill that particular
01:21 event. And together I think it helps to create a much more interesting
01:29 and rich diary of events for the year, so they are very important.
