Glass Cage Cabaret founder Autumn Conlin and producer Emma Bloomfield talk about their new show.

00:00 Can you tell me where the idea for a cabaret night came from?
00:04 Yeah, I kind of had the idea because there's nothing really like that in the city.
00:08 I mean there's similar venues in Newcastle but nothing in Sunderland.
00:13 And really I wanted to showcase the talent that we've produced in the city.
00:17 I wanted to focus on local artists, local performers in any kind of discipline
00:23 whether it's dancing, singing, aerial, circus, acrobats, whatever.
00:29 And I wanted to showcase that in the city because I've been working with them for a long time.
00:34 We've produced some incredible talent and I think people need to see them
00:38 and they need to be celebrated because they're great.
00:42 Can you give me a flavour of what the night's going to be like then?
00:45 Yeah, we're going to have a real old style variety show really.
00:52 So as Orton mentioned we are going to have circus artists including aerialists
00:58 so for people who don't know what that is, that's people hanging from the ceiling
01:03 basically on trapezes if you think about that kind of thing.
01:10 We're going to have some acrobats, we're going to have singers, drag queens
01:16 and burlesque artists as well.
01:20 I understand the venue's going to be done out in a particular style as well?
01:24 Yeah, so we really wanted an Orton, really wanted an old style, music hall type feel of a venue
01:33 so that's why we picked the Masonic Temple.
01:37 We're also going to have seating done out like a cabaret show
01:41 so round tables, everyone sitting together as opposed to a theatre style venue.
01:46 I know it's one night initially but do you hope this becomes a permanent event?
01:50 Yeah, definitely. I really want to make it a regular night in the city
01:54 whether that's monthly, quarterly, weekly, hopefully.
01:58 So we just want a place for people to come in and leave the world outside
02:03 and just really appreciate some great local artists.
02:07 If people are interested in coming along, what should they do?
02:10 Visit the website, it's glasscagecabaret.co.uk
