Inside Sunderland's new True Padel with co-directors, Adam and Alex Carr
Transcript
00:00So Adam and Alex were down here at the new True Paddle. For those who haven't played
00:03paddle before, how would you describe it?
00:06So paddle is a mix between tennis and squash. It takes elements, good elements from both.
00:13It's tennis scoring and then you have a net in the middle but you can also use the glass
00:20like in squash so it brings both of those sports together.
00:23And why do you think it's become so popular?
00:26I think because it's very inclusive. You go to tennis and you really need to have the
00:31matchmaking quite spot on in terms of the skill level but paddle you can have an older
00:36generation and a couple of kids. We see a lot of families that come down and you can
00:40get a rally going of five, six, seven plus shots straight away.
00:44And you transformed this site down here at Westington. What's the response been like?
00:48So far really popular. I mean we had a lot of people at our Durham site coming over but
00:53over the past few days since we've been open we've had a lot of new faces coming to try
00:58this sport out so the response has been really good.
01:01And it's an affordable sport to play isn't it?
01:04Yeah so our low peak only goes for £25 at the Sunderland and £24 at the Durham venue
01:11so you're only talking £6, £7 per person and then peak goes a bit more expensive to
01:15£36 and £38 but if you go to tennis or squash it certainly is a lot cheaper.
