00:02 PJ Washington has finally landed in Dallas after what feels like years of
00:07 rumors and links.
00:09 The prophecy is foretold, PJ Washington is back home as a Dallas Maverick.
00:14 The Charlotte Hornets traded him to Dallas for Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and
00:19 a 2027 top two protected first round pick.
00:23 As well as sending PJ Washington, Charlotte sent 2024 second round pick and
00:27 a 2028 second round pick.
00:30 Straight up this trade, I'm going straight A.
00:33 I really like this move for Charlotte.
00:35 I did not think there was any real trade where you were taking,
00:39 unless you were taking on really bad negative salary,
00:41 you're getting a first round pick for PJ Washington.
00:44 And the team managed to do this here.
00:46 Firstly, Grant Williams, the player coming back,
00:50 he's on a four year $54 million contract, has struggled in Dallas, okay?
00:55 That's why they're looking to move him.
00:57 They viewed him as a negative asset.
00:59 There's been some criticism around, has he been out of shape?
01:02 He's not fitting well with the team.
01:05 But equally, I watched a lot of Grant Williams, and
01:07 a lot of people did with Boston.
01:09 And he is a leader, a defender, he is a guy who communicates,
01:14 he's someone who battles, he has some toughness to him.
01:17 Those are all things that Charlotte Hornets fans have been saying this team
01:22 needs for a long time.
01:23 And on top of that, he can shoot the ball too.
01:24 He's like a high 30% three point shooter, so he brings you floor spacing.
01:30 I actually think for this team around Brandon Miller, around the Miller ball,
01:34 that someone like Grant Williams is a better fit for
01:37 Charlotte than PJ Washington, just straight up.
01:41 And you build into that, that Grant Williams has another year on that contract.
01:45 I like those two just as a swap.
01:47 And that's something that obviously was discussed in the summer by the two teams.
01:50 And I said the same thing then, I'm not changing my story now,
01:53 just because Grant Williams is on the Charlotte Hornets.
01:55 I said then, I think what Grant does actually fits the Hornets better.
01:58 But I think PJ is the more exciting player with more offensive upside,
02:02 which I still think is the case.
02:04 But I'm fed up of watching low energy plays from PJ Washington.
02:10 I'm fed up of seeing a lack of toughness, a lack of communication.
02:13 I know Grant Williams is gonna bring that.
02:15 So interested to see how that plays.
02:17 The one worry I do have is Grant Williams is a self preset,
02:21 like he's a try hard, little bit of a nerd.
02:25 And I mean that in a nice way, right?
02:27 He's a lovely guy, everyone speaks well of him.
02:31 But LaMela Ball is the opposite of a try hard nerd.
02:35 And I am not quite sure how those two will mix.
02:39 And I think that's kind of why Grant got in the nerves of some people in Dallas,
02:42 right?
02:43 Like when you are the sixth, seventh, eighth best player in the team,
02:46 you're telling like these all NBA caliber players what they should be doing.
02:50 And like trying to hold people accountable.
02:53 At times it can work.
02:54 If you're PJ Tucker, if you're Udonis Haslam, like that works.
02:58 But also at times, like if you don't carry a certain kind of weight with you,
03:02 like a respect from your teammates, that just becomes white noise.
03:06 Seth Curry, I don't know how long he'll be let long for the team.
03:09 But hey, what a cool story that Seth, Dale Curry's son,
03:12 is coming back to play for the Charlotte Hornets.
03:15 That's worth the trade just enough.
03:16 And like he would play for the Charlotte Hornets this year as a two guard.
03:20 I don't know if he will, because it might prioritize some young players.
03:24 But he is still a rotation caliber player on a good team.
03:28 And another floor space is something else that this team does need.
03:32 The 2027 first round pick, that's got some upside.
03:36 Dallas have never been a team that cruised through the regular season.
03:39 Now, if you add this to the Miami pick in 2027, 2028,
03:42 which that pick could convey in either one of those years.
03:46 Charlotte now finally have some future draft capital that they can use themselves,
03:51 or they can put into trades.
03:53 So again, I like moving essentially, I kind of look at this as two separate trades.
03:58 It's PJ Washington for Grant Williams and Seth Curry, and
04:01 a first round pick for two seconds.
04:03 And the Charlotte Hornets have got enough seconds.
04:06 They've got a lot of second round picks currently on the roster,
04:09 developing in the youth system.
04:11 So I think trading a couple of those, one of them being in 2028, and
04:14 I think it's the Clippers second round pick.
04:17 Which will probably be relatively high, you think, in the second round.
04:22 For a 2027 first, which could be anywhere, only top two protected.
04:26 What if Luca gets injured for the year?
04:28 What if Kyrie disappears again?
04:30 I like the upside of that pick, and that's why I like this trade.
04:34 A full straight A from me, and
04:37 I really like what the Hornets have done at this deadline.
