Transcript
00:00 Yeah
00:01 All right. Thanks again everyone for joining us for this post-match press conference
00:04 We're joined by Hugh Wiebegen the Australia captain Hugh. Can you just sum up your reaction immediate reaction to that game?
00:10 Oh, I still don't really know what happened to be honest. I said that out there, but yeah
00:14 Yes, all the boys are so excited. Yes. It was awesome
00:17 Incredible couple of partnerships towards the end there as well. What were the nerves like amongst the group there?
00:23 Yeah, every time we thought we got in control
00:25 We lost the wicket, but the boys fought so hard now 17 year old Oli Peake was unbelievable
00:30 Really mature for his age and yeah Raph and Vidler at the end there was you know, awesome
00:35 After the bowling performance what were you saying to your team going in and chasing 180?
00:39 Did you feel that you had restricted Pakistan to a below average total? We were happy with 180
00:45 We thought that was a little bit below par in the end. It was pretty spot-on par, but um
00:49 Yeah, we were we were confident by be bold
00:52 We knew that we weren't gonna win it in the first 30 hours
00:54 We knew that we needed to take it deep and yeah, I was glad we did that in the end
00:58 Can you tell us about the pitch and how that progressed throughout the day?
01:02 I think you obviously chose to ball for your first thinking that the bat batting
01:05 We could would get better. Is that something that you found or did you feel that?
01:08 It was probably a little different to how you expected
01:10 I think it stayed pretty similar to be honest. I think with the new ball. It was offering a bit both sides
01:14 Bit of bounce, but there's a couple started to stay low towards the end of the day
01:19 But I think I got a little bit dry and harder as it went on
01:22 You've had a couple of dramatic games leading up to this point
01:25 India conversely have probably had a little bit more of a comfortable run to the final. Do you think that benefits you?
01:32 Yeah, we don't really mind to be honest with you know, we've been put in the pressure situations, you know
01:37 If we're not the favorites, that's all right. We like being underdogs
01:39 So yeah, we I think being in those pressure situations will help us in the in the final
01:44 Yeah, it's been less than three months since the senior men's final as well in here, Australia
01:49 Just how excited are you and and the team looking ahead to Sunday's game? Yeah, we're very excited
01:54 I mean, obviously we all watched that game and yeah, it was awesome. So hopefully we can replicate that
01:59 But yeah, we're looking forward to it. Can you just give us a word about Tom Straker and his bowling performance as well today?
02:05 Exceptional figures I think the best for a baller at the semifinal in the London 19 World Cup
02:10 So just a few words from you on that. Yeah, unbelievable. He just he's a workhorse. He just keeps going all day
02:17 Doesn't matter what Andy bowls from doesn't matter how how hot it is. He just keeps coming
02:20 So yeah, he was he was unbelievable and I wasn't surprised to be honest
02:24 Firstly captain congrats on your tremendous victory today
02:30 You got quite a few wickets from the short pitch deliveries and you got trapped Pakistani batters
02:34 Was it a pre-planned that you knew Pakistani batsmen are not good at short deliveries?
02:38 We obviously haven't played Pakistan too much, but we think against the subcontinent teams
02:44 It's probably a decent ploy we against the other teams. We we implemented that and it worked well
02:48 So that was definitely a plan coming into it. Yeah, I guess it paid off today
02:51 You won the toss and elected to ball first
02:53 What exactly was the power score you in mind if you restrict Pakistan for that score and that's good for your team
02:58 I don't really know if we had a pass score in mind
03:00 I just saw if we bowled well somewhere around that 200 mark to 240 somewhere around that
03:05 Yeah, I thought just whatever we did as long as we did it. Well, it would yeah, they're all yes. Thank you
03:13 No other questions, I don't think so you're free who thanks very much congrats. Thank you
03:17 Thank you.
