00:00 According to media reports, Iran has issued warning on Sunday expressing concerns about
00:07 the potential targeting of two cargo ships, Behshad and Savez, long suspected of being
00:11 used as forward operating bases for Iranian commanders.
00:16 This warning comes after the US and the UK launched significant airstrikes against Yemen's
00:21 Houthi rebel in response to the killing of three US soldiers in Jordan.
00:25 The escalating tensions trace back to the Israel war with Hamas in Gaza, raising fears
00:30 of a broader regional conflict.
00:33 The airstrikes in Yemen targeted Houthi-led provinces, including Sana'a, hitting underground-based
00:38 missile arsenals, launch sites and rebel helicopters.
00:42 The Houthi military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Sari, had vowed to continue
00:46 supporting Palestinians despite the attack.
00:49 However, the US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned of further consequences if the Houthis
00:54 didn't cease their attack on international shipping.
00:57 British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has also echoed the call for an end to the Houthi
01:01 attacks.
01:03 For the unaware, Behshad and Savez, registered as two commercial cargo ships, are long being
01:08 suspected of serving as spy positions of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
01:12 Both vessels have been loitering off in Yemen for years.
01:15 Saudi Arabia previously described the Savez as a maritime base and weapons transshipment
01:20 point for the guards.
01:22 In a video statement, Iran's regular army labelled the ships as "floating armories"
01:27 with Behshad purportedly countering piracy.
01:30 However, Iran's involvement in anti-piracy efforts in the region remains unverified till
01:34 now.
01:35 And so, ahead of the US airstrikes, the Behshad has moved into the Gulf of Aden and is currently
01:40 dogged into Djibouti near a Chinese military base.
01:44 The statement from Iran concludes with a warning, emphasising that engaging in terrorist activities
01:49 against Behshad or similar vessels will jeopardise the international maritime route and assume
01:53 global responsibility for potential future risks.
01:58 The US Navy's 5th fleet in West Asia has not responded to the threat yet.
02:03 For the unaware, the Savez, currently in the Indian Ocean, has faced attack back in 2021,
02:07 suspected to be an Israeli action, in the broader shadow war between Tehran and Israel
02:12 following the collapse of the Iran nuclear deal.
