A serious accident occurred shortly after the start of the Pohjanmaa Ralli, sixth round of the 2018 Finnish Rally Championship, held near Seinäjoki in South Ostrobothnia, Finland. A 56-year-old female spectator died after one of the racing cars drove off the road. Her death was instantaneous.

The accident occurred about 20h30 on Friday, 15 June 2018 during the first special stage of the rally. Less than two kilometers after crossing the starting line, located in the village of Aunes, 10 kilometers north of Seinäjoki, driver Tomi Vilenius lost control of his Honda Civic Type-R EP3 #12. The vehicle left the road and ran over the woman standing in an area that was not forbidden to the public.

Different sources reported the deceased woman, whose name was not released, to be a Finnish soldier or a member of the local Police. Tomi Vilenius was also injured in the crash and was taken to hospital.

Owing to the tragedy, the special stage was immediately stopped, and also the subsequent second special stage was canceled. Racing resumed only after 23h00 with the start of the third special stage. Winners of the rally were Teemu Asunmaa-Ville Mannisenmäki in a Škoda Fabia R5.
