00:00 On 1st of February, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced vaccination for cervical
00:21 cancer. And on 2nd of February, a bad news came from the entertainment industry. Now,
00:27 both of them are co-relating. Poonam Pandey's team announced on her official Instagram handle
00:33 that the actress has died of cervical cancer at the age of 32 and the whole nation started
00:40 grieving the death of such a young woman. But on 3rd of February, Poonam Pandey shows
00:47 up on her Instagram profile saying that she is alive and this whole thing, which people
00:53 are calling drama, is an awareness campaign. Now, we are going to discuss today this not
01:00 so good awareness campaign which Poonam Pandey chose to spread awareness about such a crucial
01:06 thing, cervical cancer. I am joined by my colleague Ansh Pandey and welcome you all
01:12 on One India News and this special show, What's Trending.
01:15 So, Ansh, first of all, I would like to know your point of view on this whole scenario
01:22 which just happened in 3 days, I would say. First, Nirmala Sitharaman announced. Second,
01:27 the death news and third, she comes up and says I am alive. What's your point of view?
01:32 So, see, on the day of the budget, Nirmala Sitharaman announced that there will be some
01:38 special vaccination campaigns for the women who are suffering from or who may suffer from
01:43 the cervical cancer. And the very next day, the news came that Poonam Pandey has died.
01:50 She uploaded an Instagram post and she posted that we lost Poonam. That one line was enough
01:58 to create suspense, to create speculations that how did this happen suddenly. Then, many
02:06 posts started on it. It became a news that Poonam Pandey died.
02:11 What do you think, Ansh on this? See, I personally, what I see is that it is
02:16 not exactly, you are coming the next day and you are coming and saying that this was an
02:21 awareness campaign. No, this was not an awareness campaign. This is more, that's what people
02:27 are also thinking. The way which she chose.
02:29 The way which she chose. If you wanted to promote these things, okay, so you may have
02:35 opted for some sort of ad or what. There are many ways.
02:38 What's this that you have passed and the very next day you come alive and you come into
02:42 the public and say that we are alive. It was very shocking first when she said that
02:46 she didn't say but her team says that she is dead and on the second day she comes and
02:52 she says that I am alive and you know what? None of her friends are happy with it.
02:57 Many of her friends. Her own friends have posted many such posts
03:00 that what exactly was this? Why did you do that?
03:03 I can quote them. Prince Narula, Saisha Shinde, the fashion designer.
03:09 Lockup. Yes, she was with Poonam in lockup and she
03:13 keeps saying that this is ridiculous because she was sharing her personal experience and
03:19 saying that my mother suffered from cancer, my aunt died of cancer, my sister suffered
03:24 from mental illness, all of that and playing with death.
03:28 Death is not a joke. Death is not a joke, exactly.
03:31 And she opted for that way. But there's one more thing that I would like
03:33 to say. Poonam Pandey has been known for creating controversies.
03:37 And that too by so many means that you can't understand why are you doing that?
03:43 See, not just now, but since a long time, even during the 2011 BCCI, Cricket World Cup,
03:47 she wrote a letter to BCCI. She wrote a letter to BCCI that she'll strip
03:53 if India wins the World Cup. Well, that's a good thing that BCCI didn't
03:56 allow that, but okay. And she has been known, but this time, this
04:01 crossed limits. It crossed limits of gaining fame, gaining
04:05 popularity and a PR stunt can go beyond people's emotion.
04:10 Nobody thought that. And as you are saying that Poonam Pandey is
04:13 known for creating controversy. You know that, we know that, everyone knows
04:17 that and the media knew that too. And that's why most of the media channels
04:22 were also saying that, is it true or is it just a PR stunt?
04:28 Because many people were saying that cervical cancer doesn't cause death suddenly.
04:34 That's true. Because she was spotted four days back.
04:37 She went to Goa in a party and then suddenly, there is no dead body, no family confirmation.
04:44 For those who don't know, she was also celebrating Pranaam Pradesh Tha, that Ram ceremony.
04:49 She also commented on the Maldives. Yeah, she also commented on the Maldives.
04:52 Tab tak there was no, but yeah, I was listening to some news reports yesterday.
04:58 So people were saying different, different things.
05:01 Some were saying that, no, aisa hai, all of a sudden death ho sakti hai.
05:05 And there were also people who were saying ki even during the time of lock up,
05:09 woh keh rahi thi ki nahi nahi, main toh ek aisi bimaar se safar kar rahi hoon,
05:12 jo bata nahi sakti hoon public ko. And uske baad, she used this ki,
05:16 bhaiya, I died and the next day she comes ki, I am suffering.
05:19 I am not suffering. I am alive.
05:21 But think about the people who can't say this. Okay.
05:26 Think about those people who actually suffer and don't come back.
05:29 What kind of a stress that is? That is a very serious thing.
05:32 And so there are many reactions coming up from popular celebrities.
05:38 When she died also, then many people commented that this is shocking
05:41 and the griefs were coming and the mourning was happening.
05:45 But after this, today's incident, when she said that she's alive,
05:49 many people have given the reaction and Indian film director
05:53 Gopal Verma has given his statement and he had said that he supports Poonam
06:00 and he is okay because whatever she does and whatever she has done
06:04 in this case has spreaded awareness actually about cervical cancer
06:09 and the whole nation is talking about it. Do you agree with Gopal Verma?
06:14 No, I don't. Definitely.
06:16 Hum se ek opinion pe nahi kaisakte. We have to talk about different opinions too.
06:18 Like there is, what Vivek Arunjan... Agnihotri.
06:22 What he stated.
06:23 So he is saying that it's a PR activity and it's a PR activity also done by
06:29 an organization, I'll name out that, Hotterfly.
06:33 So basically the third post which has come up from Poonam Pandey's profile,
06:38 it's a collaboration between Hotterfly and Poonam Pandey's profile.
06:42 So people...
06:42 Toh fir organization ko bhi question karachayi ki?
06:44 Yes.
06:44 This was your campaign. Wow man.
06:46 Why only Poonam?
06:47 Why only Poonam?
06:47 Organization should be also questioned but Ansh, see,
06:52 if there is an organization involved, there is Poonam Pandey's PR team involved,
06:56 there is Poonam Pandey herself involved. It's a pre-planned,
07:00 calculative move which is done by many people together.
07:05 Means, have we come at this point as a society that fame is so important for us
07:11 that we can go at this level and play with people's emotions?
07:15 Definitely not.
07:16 Yehi toh point hai that you have done something so ridiculous at this point of time
07:22 that people are criticizing you, people are also raising questions
07:26 ki you are...
07:27 See, cervical cancer is a very sensitive issue for those who don't know.
07:31 Okay, it's a cancer that...
07:33 First of all, cancer is anyway a serious issue.
07:36 And you are a woman, you know this ki cervical cancer is a very serious issue.
07:41 I was so hurt personally when I saw her post.
07:44 She has done something like...
07:45 No, not only you. I'm pretty sure there are many women outside jo is cheez se hurt hoyi.
07:49 I was angry, I was hurt.
07:52 I was thinking that even like if we take the woman's side as a woman,
07:57 where have we come that we are playing with such a crucial thing like cervical cancer?
08:02 It is ridiculous from my point of view.
08:05 But there is a thing Ansh that people are saying that
08:08 Indian media is not fact-checking the news and they are just giving it.
08:13 But I would like to say one thing here,
08:15 that something coming from official Instagram account is a very tough course.
08:21 Often deemed as necessary.
08:23 It's a well enough source to give a news on.
08:25 Well enough source. People expect that there is a confirmation from here.
08:29 So that's true.
08:30 It's official Instagram handle, where does PM Modi say?
08:34 Like today he said that...
08:36 LK Advani is getting Bharat Ratna.
08:38 He tweeted on Twitter.
08:39 So today only PM Narendra Modi said that LK Advani will be awarded with Bharat Ratna.
08:45 And he said that on his official Twitter handle.
08:49 That's where news is coming from and people are making it.
08:52 So I don't think gaming media would be right here because...
08:56 No but I think a new trend will start from here.
08:59 What Poonam Pandey has started.
09:00 That now people will also stake on Instagram too.
09:03 That brother, shall we check it first or not?
09:07 Whether we take it seriously or not.
09:09 Not only Poonam Pandey, every Instagram account from now on.
09:12 It is a death news Ansh.
09:14 So in death news, nobody is going to knock the door and see the dead bodies.
09:18 See death is...
09:19 Yes that's why.
09:21 Or the person will not come up by himself just for a minute to say that I am dead now.
09:25 This is how we get news.
09:27 This is what happens when you pick a sensitive issue.
09:29 And you make it insensitive in the very first moment.
09:32 So that's what she did.
09:34 As we were talking about cervical cancer.
09:36 So Nirmala Sitharaman announced...
09:39 It got recognised in Budget 2024.
09:44 That's a huge thing.
09:45 And let me tell you that WHO is also following a pattern of 90-70-90.
09:51 Where they are saying that this is an elimination strategy target.
09:56 For till 2030 which will eliminate 90% of women from suffering from cervical cancer.
10:03 And there is a very heart breaking and shocking fact here that
10:08 In India, it is the second largest cancer which Indian women are facing.
10:14 That's why I am telling you that it is a very serious issue.
10:17 But it is a taboo.
10:20 Because cervical cancer is treated as a taboo because people often connect it with sexual health.
10:27 It is somewhere connected but people are not openly talking about it.
10:32 Because they say that it is being caused because of multiple sexual relationships.
10:38 So it has become a taboo.
10:44 A girl coming up and saying that I am suffering from cervical cancer.
10:46 She also feels like what if they will judge me that I must be having multiple sexual relationships or something like that.
10:53 What's your take on this?
10:55 How can we aware girls or aware people about it that it's not just connected to one particular thing.
11:00 But it is more than that and we should be giving a free society to our girls to talk about it.
11:05 And not make it a taboo and the second largest cancer in India.
11:09 So how do you see it?
11:11 It is a very simple thing.
11:13 I believe that any day your life is bigger than your reputation.
11:17 Your life is bigger than your social circle.
11:21 So if you are thinking that if you are suffering from any sort of health problems.
11:28 Don't hide it.
11:30 There is nothing to hide.
11:33 Ansh I said they are not comfortable because they are not made comfortable.
11:38 They are not made comfortable.
11:40 They are being judged for it.
11:42 The campaigning should start from here.
11:45 But not exactly in a way.
11:47 You have to aware the public.
11:50 You have to put it in school education.
11:52 You have to run government campaigns.
11:56 You have to put videos.
11:58 Awareness campaigns on different types.
12:00 It is not going to happen after the budget 2021.
12:03 Government plays a major role in all of this.
12:05 And Nirmala Sitharaman has taken a stand and talked about it.
12:09 So that is what my stance is.
12:11 Whatever has to be done here is done by the government.
12:13 Social influencers can do that too.
12:17 But in a healthy way.
12:19 Not exactly what Poonam did that I died.
12:22 How can you die?
12:24 You were just uploading videos.
12:26 You ridiculed people.
12:28 You played with emotions.
12:30 You played with almost crores of women who are suffering from cervical cancer.
12:33 It is kind of mocking for them.
12:36 It is kind of mocking.
12:38 There are many women and people suffering from cancer.
12:42 What they must be going through after seeing this news.
12:45 That someone is playing with the disease which I am suffering from.
12:49 It is a very wrong way of spreading awareness in my point of view.
12:54 And that is what we wanted to tell you guys from today's session.
12:59 Today's recording that spreading awareness is good.
13:03 We as a society play a major role in making each other comfortable.
13:08 And spreading awareness about cancer which is a very crucial thing.
13:11 But we also need to choose a proper way, a proper method, a proper path to that.
13:18 What Poonam Pandey did was not a good way of spreading awareness.
13:23 Rather it was a PR stunt.
13:25 What we think.
13:26 It was insensitive.
13:27 It was insensitive and that's the thing which you should be not doing.
13:32 And what do you think about all of this drama I would say.
13:36 Tell us in the comments below.
13:38 And we will see you next time with another episode, another topic.
13:41 Thank you so much for joining in.
