Do the British public prefer their pets to their partners? A recent study has suggested that we do. As Valentines Day approaches we have sent camera teams out for people’s opinions.

00:00 I mean, I love Valentine's Day. It's just, it's another day when you can tell your loved
00:07 person you love them, you care for them, you appreciate them, you do stuff for them to
00:12 show them you really care. I love pets. I got two cats. I mean, they make my life a
00:18 nightmare sometimes, but I love them either way. I would do anything for them. And I love
00:22 my wife because I'm married. So I love my wife. I would do anything for her, especially
00:26 on Valentine's Day or any other day. I don't care really about doing something special
00:30 on Valentine's Day because I try to do it every day. So every day I try to do something
00:33 special for her. Every day I try to ask her what can I do more for her? Like, because
00:38 she, every day she does so much for me. I'll never be able to repay her for everything
00:43 that she does for me. So every day I try to, to do more for her.
00:48 I definitely know people that really love their pets. I personally prefer my partner
00:55 to a pet. Yeah, I, I could see why if you've got really cute dog that you would probably
01:04 prefer spending time with your partner. But I personally prefer my partner to my dog.
01:10 Yes. Yes. I think so. Well, a pet's never going to let you down, is it? And it's, it's
01:19 always loving and caring and everything else. Partners, well, partners are partners, aren't
01:26 they? So it is. Your pet's going to always be there until they have to pass on. But Valentine's
01:32 Day I think is, I don't know. I think there's a lot of expectations from people and I don't,
01:38 I just go, yeah, it's Valentine's Day, fine. I haven't got a pet at the moment, so I'm
01:42 going to have to say my partner. I think it's, well, that's a difficult one, isn't it? Because
01:48 obviously pets, they can't tell you when they need something and your partners do. And also
01:52 hopefully your pets are kind of loyal all the time and they are there and it's unconditional,
01:58 you know, and they don't ask you to do the washing up. So maybe the pets.
02:02 Yeah, I think we do need somebody in our life. We should be sharing our lives with other
02:07 people. So yeah, I'm still all for love. Valentine's Day, not so fussed about that date. It should
02:13 be more about what you do all year round. It's specific to one day. So yeah, I, I, I
02:20 think it's a good thing. But pets, pets have their place, but my pet would come before
02:24 my partner. My partner is my person. They come first.
02:28 My big love of my life is my daughter. She's called Alessia. And we used to have a dog.
02:37 She called Mia, but she's passing away two years ago. Still very hurt. So the pet is
02:47 sometimes more, give more love than the people. So I can't have another dog because it's still
02:55 hurt. So I can't cope with this again. Now we have a cat, he's called Shark. And here
03:02 we go. This is the family.
