00:00 All right, moving on to Taylor Swift.
00:02 So graphic AI images of Taylor went viral
00:06 on the social media platform X,
00:09 and users are being met with an error message
00:10 upon searching her name.
00:11 That has now been rectified
00:12 and people can search her name now,
00:14 but the White House also spoke out after the scandal
00:17 calling for legislation to protect victims
00:19 of online harassment.
00:20 White House Press Secretary, Corrine Jean-Pierre,
00:22 said the incident was alarming
00:24 and that the Biden administration is focusing
00:26 on the negatives of AI.
00:28 SAG-AFTRA also released a statement on the situation
00:31 writing, "The development and dissemination of fake images,
00:34 "especially those of lewd nature,
00:36 "without someone's consent, must be made illegal.
00:38 "As a society, we have it in our power
00:40 "to control these technologies,
00:42 "but we must act now before it is too late."
00:45 So, I mean, it's probably a question
00:47 that a lot of tech companies are asking.
00:48 How can these images be stopped
00:50 and can Taylor take any sort of legal action
00:53 and who would she target?
00:54 - Christina, this is another area of the law
00:57 where really technology has outpaced the law
01:00 and it's really state-specific.
01:02 Unfortunately, there is no federal law
01:04 that prohibits these types of images.
01:06 And there's only a small handful of states
01:09 that do prohibit it.
01:10 Tennessee, where Taylor Swift lives,
01:12 I don't believe has a law prohibiting these types of fake
01:15 or AI-generated pornographic images.
01:18 But California, where I live, does.
01:21 And you can sue if it's malicious
01:24 and get up to $150,000 for each violation.
01:29 So, it really depends on the state
01:32 and hopefully other states follow suit,
01:33 but there's really only a minority of them right now
01:36 that are taking up this issue.
01:39 But we know that Swifties have a lot of power,
01:41 just like Britney Spears
01:42 helped change some conservatorship laws.
01:44 So hopefully, Taylor Swift,
01:46 even though this is something that is terrible,
01:49 does be an impetus for some legislative change
01:54 because it really needs to happen.
