A Maitland business has gone up in flames early this morning.
Transcript
00:00 Superintendent Gary Tai, Zone Commander Metro North 3. This morning at 04.24
00:06 hours we received a triple O call to a fire within the building behind me.
00:10 Crews arrived and discovered that the building had a substantial fire within
00:15 it. We eventually made entry. The entry was delayed as a result of the power
00:20 being isolated, not being isolated. Once isolated, crews made entry and the
00:25 efforts of the early crews were able to contain the fire to the engine bay
00:29 and the rooms of origin and prevent spreading of the fire to the
00:33 adjoining buildings. At this stage the damage is contained to the building
00:38 behind me. The fire was a small part of the damage to the building. The rest of
00:42 the building's been affected by smoke, heat and water damage. There is no damage
00:46 to the adjoining buildings and hopefully once the power is restored they'll be
00:50 able to resume normal business. Do you know the cause or what might have
00:55 happened? I can see investigators have arrived. At this point in time we've got fire investigators up
01:00 to have a look. At the moment they're in the process of investigating
01:04 the fire. At this point we don't believe that the fire is suspicious but we do
01:08 want to know what the exact cause was. So they will investigate that over the coming hours.
