00:03 Getting down to the Big 12 here, big matchup, two top 25 teams is Texas Tech and
00:07 it's TCU.
00:08 Here's the interesting part, you might be thinking Kansas has the best record in
00:11 the Big 12, maybe Baylor, maybe even taking a look at Houston.
00:14 That's not the case, it's Texas Tech at five and one.
00:17 TCU coming in four and three in Big 12 play.
00:19 But here's always my favorite caveat, TCU at home,
00:22 favored by five and a half points.
00:24 It's hard to win on the road, particularly in the Big 12.
00:27 What are we looking at tonight between Texas Tech and TCU, John?
00:30 >> Hard, tough, and ugly, that's the best way to describe what we're gonna see in
00:34 this game between Grant McCaslin and Jamie Dixon.
00:36 And I wrote this today, Ben, in my daily column.
00:40 It's been very, obviously, I think, under the radar.
00:42 But Grant McCaslin, in his time now at Texas Tech, North Texas, and
00:47 Arkansas State, throughout his head coaching career in Division I,
00:50 has won just under 75% of his games as a head coach.
00:54 He has won wherever he's been, and
00:56 he's doing it this year, guys, at Texas Tech, without Devin Cambridge,
01:00 who was projected to be this team's starting power forward.
01:03 But he was lost for the year with a knee injury.
01:06 Remember, Devin Cambridge was a starter on the Arizona State team last year
01:10 that made the NCAA tournament, won a game in the first four, and
01:14 lost a close game to TCU in the round of 64.
01:17 So Grant McCaslin has been a terrific hire at Texas Tech.
01:22 And this is, again, another program maximizing the COVID senior.
01:26 You look, obviously, at Texas Tech, and obviously, a lot of people from
01:29 the periphery are going to talk about Pop Isaacs and
01:32 the breakout season he's having, averaging about 17 points a game.
01:36 But also the ability of Texas Tech to go into the portal and
01:40 get somebody like Warren Washington, who's a fifth-year anchor up front,
01:44 like Joe Toussaint, who, for the majority of his career at Iowa and
01:47 West Virginia, was a capable role player, but
01:49 has now taken another step as a fifth-year senior.
01:53 I've said it before, I'll say it again.
01:55 If you are a head coach, you need to recruit COVID seniors with the same fervor
02:00 as you recruit a four- or five-star prospect.
02:02 I just named two on Texas Tech, and I was just naming another one a couple of
02:06 minutes ago, Dalton Connect, who has Tennessee in position,
02:09 the final four for the first time under Rick Barnes.
